Bilstein 5100

Another very happy with the swap from Rancho to 5100s.  Far more soft of a ride but without the excessive body roll one might think you'd get with a softer shock.  Closer to the ride of a 1500 than how the Ranchos felt.  Also added the 5100 steering stabilizer which smoothes out the bump steer quite a bit.  Adds a bit more heft to the steering too.

Have heard a couple of reports from the Z-71 Avalanche community that the 4600 front struts "may" be a little shorter than the stock Bisteins.

Can you confirm, or deny?

Confirm, can also include the 5100 in their.

BUT we are talking the old generation trucks and not even close to the current trucks. The '01-'10 HAD trucks had shorter then stock Bilstein shocks.

The 5100 shocks that are supposed to be for leveled trucks are the exact same length as the factory shocks and require a spacer, otherwise you are trying to rip the shock in half when you bottom out and you are not in the correct valving of the shock, once spaced it let's the frame stop do the job of bottoming out and puts the shock back into the correct valving, giving you full travel and the correct ride.

5100 are great shocks, no they are perfect shocks, just remember to add spacers if you run cranked torsion bars.

Thanks for responding.

Was concerned since my fronts on the GMT 900 are more struts, than shocks; and, would probably have a direct affect on ride height.

Just put 5100s in my 2015 2500HD with one inch rear drop. Totally transformed the ride of the truck in a great way. The ride is sooooooo much better. And my truck only has 37k miles.

Easy swap.  About an hour if you don’t use air tools.

Are you guys putting these shocks onto 2500HD trucks? And has anyone swapped out a 16 or 17 Z71 equipped truck yet? Id like to get a review of the how much improved the ride is and if it added more body roll or issues while towing? Thanks.

A shock has nothing to do with body roll. A shocks only purpose is to dampen suspension oscillations.
