Before you call my bluff there are 1000's of LS motor vehicles that have been through the dealer with zero issues. You couldn't be more wrong. The various computers all have flash counters. If the counter has been ticked and the dealer has no record it's a pretty safe bet that the customer did it. The dealer won't care if you come in for a malfunctioning door latch. If you show up with the transmission slipping because removing too much torque management burned up the clutches you very well may have an issue. If you don't mind taking the risk then by all means run a tune. I am a bit more conservative and don't like the thought of putting a used powertrain in my 2017 truck because I "needed" 30 more horsepower.

You all say this but the actual people that get caught with this or are denied warranty are almost slim to none. Yes people supposedly have but they aren't coming in droves to forums to talk about it. Go look at any thread dedicated to warranty denial to see examples... or lack thereof. Yes i have read examples... like a guy with a Camaro denied an engine over his catchcan... but there usually is more to the story that you ever see. And it's not a flash counter on a global a pcm anyway... they store the calibration files flashed so they can see what was uploaded. Fun stuff lol.

They count key counts, number of battery disconnects, among other things...every programmer leaves footprints (including Smarty, which is supposedly undetectable). The manufacturers have spent a lot of time sleuthing this out because they don't want to pay for repairs caused by someone modifying their product. Most vehicles now have programming to safeguard against a bad/abusive driver, which is removed by the programmer in most cases.Just surf a diesel forum, see how many have gotten burnt...some guys got burnt and they never had a programmer (bought used). I've seen way too much of it, once you turn a wrench or plug a programmer into the OBD, you become your own warranty station. That's why I will never buy a used truck or car that I need to depend on.Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk The key count cycle isn't the main concern... Global A ecms record actual flash file data.. they can see what flashed it and if the cal id is not gm it's flagged. Again... You guys worry too much over nothing. These forums and social media breed this stuff lol.

Because you know the first thing a dealer worries about with a 6 liter HD is custom tuning lol. Thanks but I will take driving tuned especially with a worthless to purchase powertrain combo lol.

SierraHD17 Posted December 8, 2017 Posted December 8, 2017 Again with the worry. People have free choice and a lot of things can happen. You could win the lottery with about the same odds as your warranty being denied.... hell the warranty odds are actually a lot worse lol. Plenty of info from both standpoints... little evidence of much the one way in the gas HD market. That be the case leave the truck totally stock and never do anything but maintenance..... because when it boils down to it anything can compromise the warranty. If it doesn't suit you don't do it... pretty easy.
dan3415 Posted December 8, 2017 Author Posted December 8, 2017 Wow. My towing question turned into a bickering match. You ladies should all go on The View. I’m pretty sure that most people are somewhat knowledgeable about the risks of a tune. Plus, warranty drivetrain issues is prolly 90% abuse or lack of proper maintenance. I’m willing to bet all these tuning companies would not be putting out products to blow motors and transmission. And, to throw in my two cents. I had a turbo Audi that was tuned, and Full exhaust around 75hp up from stock. Their warranty covered transmission work. The dealer also installed the new clutch and lightweight flywheel while they were in there. Moral of the story, is be educated, and don’t let the dealer push you around. i82much Posted December 8, 2017 Posted December 8, 2017 I have a tune on my 65 Pontiac. 78 jets in the front, 86 in the rear, 38 degrees total timing, and the idle feed restrictions are one size smaller than stock.

If you would like to discuss this further I would recommend starting a new thread as we have hijacked this one. My apologies to the OP.
ewbldavis Posted December 8, 2017 Posted December 8, 2017 Quit bickering. Unrelated to topic and you're starting to look like the F150 forums... If you tune your truck, and dealer catches it on a warranty claim, it's your problem. If you want to take the risk, up to you. If not, then don't. Who cares what stats say. Up to each of us to decide what we do with our own trucks. As far as OP - my 1500 would scream from time to time when towing - grade braking especially! We have a 34' travel trailer. Pulled well, but trailer was right at limits for truck. I "upgraded" to the 2500 because I expect it will pull much better. Gasser is all I needed. No...I likely won't be tuning it...
