Problems towing with 2015 2500

In my company, I have a 2015 2500 HD crew 6.0 with trailer package, and a 2017 1500 Double can with 5.3 and trailer package. Towing the same trailer with the same piece of equipment, I really feel that the 1500 does a better job towing than the 2500. The 2500 is always running higher rpm’s and seems to struggle with hills, where the 1500 Just seems like it drives Normal. Also, the manual shift won’t let me override in certain situations. This is probably a 6000 pound trailer. Any ideas?

I just had a 2018 Silverado 1500 reg cab as a loaner, with power and torque ratings similar to a 6.0 and weighing probably 1000 pounds less that truck felt very strong so I can see why you would feel that way. Most trucks now have better advertised hp ratings than our chevys. I also drive an f250 with the 6.2 at work and it feels a little stronger too. If I didn’t need to plow with my hd I probably would go back to a 1500.

I’ve read other posts and have just come up with some confusion. Is there any good way to “help” the 6.0 a little bit. It is so close to being great towing, but just some little issues. Tuner maybe?

This...

The difference is the 2500 will handle the trailer better, more securely. It's not a race...

Right, it’s a stronger more capable truck just not really more powerful feeling with the 6.0 anyway. Tougher by far.

I completely agree that the 2500 is the right truck for the towing job. I owned a 150” before, and upgraded for that exact reason. Much more stable ride, better braking, less “sway”. Just so close with power....

just remember that the transmission is a torque multiplier, and the lower the gear, the more torque multiplication.  and, the lower the gear, the higher the rpm.

HD truck has 4.10 gears vs 1500 with 3.42 gears at best.

Not sure why the 2500 would feel stronger.

HD truck has 14.5in. brakes on all corners, 1500 not so much...

Stronger with regards to its build. Frame ,suspension, load carrying ability and so on. Stronger truck.

If the 1500 seems that much better why don't you just stick to using the 1500?

It’s a new problem. The 2500 normally is all around better. It seems like a recent development. Plus, a 1500 isn’t built to be towing a heavy trailer between 3 and 5 times per week.

Stronger truck and also way heavier.  Your half ton is probably in the 5500 lb range and a crew HD is going to be tipping the scales at 7000 or more pounds empty.  That's most of your difference right there.

A good custom tune on the L96 wakes it up immensely..... mine loves 30 degrees of ignition timing wide open over the stock maybe 17 degrees lol.

I suggest getting the 2500 checked out. There must be something wrong if the 1500 5.3 is towing 6000lbs better.  Sure the power is similar but the 2500 has 4.10s and is a better towing platform.  There should be no comparison.
