I know that.  But it's referred to as a lunchbox because you just get internals and not a complete carrier... hence what I wrote and you quoted lol.

Never heard that about the Corp 14bolt version...been out of that scene for a while.

Stay away from anything but full carrier replacements or the Detroit being used in this application.

So your saying it frags. Good to know. I run full carrier Lockers and have experience with the GM Posi clutch system which has a limited life span as well. Next one is a Torsen.

Yeah, any of the tooth-to-tooth versions without some sort of disengagement with wear the teeth and eventually that hardened metal will damage the bearings...been there, done that.

If I read this literally Steve it has me scratching my head. Ring and Pinion is 'tooth on tooth' All gear systems are. A Detroit is 'dog on dog'. That part of the lunch box is the same design as the carrier replacement type. Sounds like I'm misreading something?

Tooth or dog, same thing...it's a metal-riding-on-metal.

And a full package locker has a disengagement, when you make a turn, coasting, a ramp pushes the dogs apart. Some (most) lunchbox lockers simply skip those teeth across one another...

I guess the main thing I'm interested in is how you get the 4.56s to work with the electronics. The Dodges I ran with would figure this out on their own via the speed sensors.

Will they see a gear set that deep? I was under the impression they would only see 4.10?

The axle reduction ratio has to match what the pcm is expecting the ratio between transfer case out put and wheel speed. It's not hard to adjust with the software. I drove my AVY a little bit after going from 3.73 to 4.10 without re-flash. About 5 miles from a start-up it would disable traction and stability because the transfer case was reporting too many revs for wheels.

Only on acceleration on a turn...on coast, a ramp pushes the dogs apart and it's a smooth turn.

I knew something had to be changed, but it was my understanding that it was a "check box" and you were limited to factory gear options...
