Re-gear and Detroit Locker in a 2017 2500HD 6 Liter

Plans changed again but for the better.  Dropped the truck off today with a guy who has done 3 re-gears for me in the past.  He isn't cheap but he does do good work.  I gave him along with all the diff parts my diff drop spacers and my BDS steering stabilizer bracket... just do it all.

Cam is shipped as is the VVT phaser as of today so it will get here fairly soon.  It's a custom Isky that specs out 216/224 on a 114 LSA and .585 lift for both intake and exhaust.  Advance it 8 degrees on the bottom and shoot for 6 degrees of regard by 5500 rpm.  The headers are here and are Speed Engineering 1 7/8" primary long tubes with their Ypipe.  Might hack cats into it or add a big resonator for sound dampening but we shall see.

E fans and and hopefully a 2013 1/2 tons MIT air tube and should be good for a while lol.

No the truck won't be "fast"... it's a big heavy turd. That said it should be tolerable and not such a disappointing slug.

Well got the call today and the truck is done.  Guy had to fight to pull the drivers axle stub out as usual with that useless 9.25" haha.  He actually broke some splines getting it apart but the GM dealer he used to work for years ago gave him everything new he needed under warranty so that's pretty sweet. He drove it about 30 miles or so and was checking temps on everything and says it drives good.  Next week I will go pick it up once I am off shift again.

Kind of forgot about it... going to pick up a 78 Nova this weekend that is a total hoopty build.  It's got a 68 mm turbo hanging off a heads/cam LQ4... car went low 10s on its previous stock heads and cam setup so should be into the 9s now lol.  Should be a blast!

Thread concluded.

So a conclusion mostly for myself as I doubt anyone else will do what I did anyway lol.  Truck drives great... honestly this should have been stock.  I tach like 2100 rpm at 70 mph in 6th and the old L96 is a lot happier there than anything below 2 grand. I expect highway mileage will be better as when i locked this truck out of 6th and into 5th previously it got better mileage.

Its no tire ripping muscle car but it takes off a hell of a lot harder than before.  My tune feels soggy off the bottom and I might address that but then again the cam and long tubes will help. I had the steering stabilizer and diff spacers done as well and it all looks good.  Truck drives good.. less tracking on rough stuff.

I will hook this truck to my trailer now and give it a whirl as it's at least reasonable unlike before it was such a sack haha.  The locker does what they do... they have a little slack and it will clunk here and there on and off the throttle.  I dont even notice it anymore as I have one in all my trucks.

It's still a big slow pig of a truck... but it does alright.

Nobody cares man haha.  It's not a lift, big tires and "stance" lol.

Lol.....

I thought it was brilliant. And after our conversation over coffee, I'm convinced it's the better way to go.

You made me real hesitant to have any programming done. My truck needs to be dead nuts reliable when I'm out towing our trailer while on holidays, these mods will deliver better performance, while being super reliable.

Just need to save up now [emoji6]

Why hesitant on tuning? My truck is just as reliable now as it was stock lol.  If you want to do this at bare minimum you need to correct the trucks shift mapping and axle ratio in the tune so your speedometer isn't like mine... it was 22% out lol.

I haven't posted here but I enjoy following. Please keep up the updates.

Thats my next thing is to figure out if I want to go with a Diablo/lew again or just get HP Tuners and start doing myself, and tweeking the rock crawler, and all my friends crawlers with LS engines.

The truck feels stronger after the 2.5 hour drive home.  It always takes the tune and adaptives time to get themselves in order after a full reflash... multiple in this case getting the speedo right.  I got the truck to lay itself out sideways on a turn and smoke the tires pretty decently... it might have peg legged the one with the Gov lock and 3.73s haha.

This isn't my first truck like this... I have 4 trucks in my stable equipped with the Detroit No Spin locker and I love the thing (obviously).  The 05 has 100000 miles on the locker and it still works great.

The next step is the cam and headers.. if I ever get the cam.  I cannot stand DHL and there is a reason why lol.  But it will get here.

For now I have things to do to the Nova and try and get my 04 completed as well as a strip my 90 K5s interior.  Too many projects lol.

Well my cam has been lost....... the stupid shipping company (DHL) who I never use for anything because of this decided they needed to not get it to me.  I got a notice they were switching my parcel to CanadaPost even though I had given them a physical address of a business in town ( which they updated on their site so it was acknowledged) however then transferred it anyhow 4 days later.  So what shows up at the Post Office?  A box with some guys name on it clear as day and address from a town like 200 miles away.  What was in it?  Some shoes the guy ordered from an outfit in China.  So I sent that back and buddy will get his shoes....... but where in the hell is my cam and phaser?  Who knows now.

DHL told the shipper 2 days for me to get this garbage..... that was 2 weeks ago and they still can't get their shit together.  So the morons can reimburse me because they lost the stuff.. both their bullshit fees for the border and the cost of the parcel.  I have a DHL "specialist" calling me on Monday who I will just relay this too.  How that clown show stays in business is beyond me.

Hooked the truck to my 22' open deck car hauler tonight and took it for a spin.  I never pinned to the trailer with the 3.73s as I knew it would be pathetic so this was my first time.  It pulls good... truck drives great and might actually hang with the old 05 now haha.  The trailer was empty so it wasn't some big load but it felt good.  Definitely the best thing a person could ever do to one of these is some real gears.

Cam is still in la la land... it's like a soap opera.  Now the guy that mistakenly got my cam is refusing to return it and it's just a mess.  Never use DHL... ever lol.

I'm at where I want to drop my diffoils for my break in.. plus i will add my snazzy new Mag Hytec rear cover.

Do you have the part # handy for that diff cover?

Well talk about a bummer.  Cam made it today finally safe and sound but 3 weeks late.  I open the box and immediately notice it says 3 bolt cam on the box.  If you know LS's the gen iv VVT stuff is a single bolt through the phaser/ top cam sprocket.

I figured ah whatever they can't mess that up..... open the box and am greeted with a cam with 3 bolt holes cut in the end......  Great.... I think maybe they messed up and the center hole is threaded..... nope, sure isn't.  So I have a cam that is currently useless to me unless I was to delete the VVT which I do not want to do.  The guy I am dealing with is great and I don't blame him.... he specified a VVT core but that got lost along the way somewhere.  So now I wait for another to be ground for me and get it shipped out differently this time.
