Auto Dim Sideview Mirror

So I’ve got the DL3 mirrors on my 2014 Silverado LTZ. My problem is it’s got the auto dim feature on the drivers sideview mirror, which is terrible. Is there any way to disable the auto dim feature or can I replace just the glass part (with a non auto dimming mirror)? I’ve found that this feature is unnecessary with tinted windows.

It dims with the rear view mirror. Easiest way to remedy that would be to pull the door panel and either unpin the dimming wire in the door harness or you could simply snip it. You could also put connectors on the wire so you can leave it disconnected, and always plug it back in if you want the feature back.

I have the same gripe. Having to use only the conical mirror to see the driver side at night sucks! It is a great feature -- if you do not have tinted windows.

I don’t know that I’ve tried that, but I don’t think it would. I’ll let you know though.

my 2016 looks like its part of the glass.. i can see the kinda green on it.. ..

Yeah, it appears to be part of the glass. I found replacement glass on rock auto, with the little blind spot mirror, signals, and heated, but without the auto dim. Just can’t stomach the $100+ price.

OP: Your windows must be dark. My windows are 20%, and I don't seem to have a problem seeing the traffic at night, except for the small overall size of these mirrors (including the inside one) not giving me a large enough picture in general.

Probably an awesome feature to have on a vehicle without window tint. With tinted windows, I can understand not wanting to have it. I see an increasing # of ya-hoos around here driving without headlights on these days.

I also wonder if the problem might be with the level of tint and not the mirrors. I appreciate adding tint to reduce heat but when it prevents eye contact with other drivers/pedestrians/cyclists or the driver's ability to see out at night then the tint is the problem.
