Mine is a 17 1500 wt. I didn't have any of the codes  except Au3 . The kit basically comes with a wired hood latch. Everything else comes already on your truck for the remote start. During installation the tech line told them because i didn't have the AQQ   RPO code it couldn't be installed in the BCM even though the parts book sold it for my truck. After a few calls they got it done. Undisclosed before hand,  GM support  charged me 50.00 for the programming code for the BCM.  It should have been included with the kit.  The dealer was very nice and worked it out with me anyway and i still came in a few bucks under the quoted price. A 1 hour job turned into a 3 hour job through GM  not knowing  what the heck its doing.   Keep in mind your parts guy at the dealer is your best friend in these situations.

Thanks crabbcat.

I have the aqq and the au3 code.

The part # chevy support gave me were the remotes which say works with the codes I have. Just concerned that they were back and forth if I could do it or not. So confusing.

I’m hoping now that support talked to dealer we should be good. Sometimes the more you read the more frustrating it gets! lol.

We shall see.

They have been using this kit since 2014 and tech support is still in the dark about what it works on even though they sell it. Embarrassing if you ask me.

crabbcat,  Glad to hear that the factory kit worked out for you !  Clean install with factory parts.

The electronics in these new trucks intimidate the heck out of me !

After my 16 Silverado i gave back under the lemon law after 3 bad rear ends, I had a aftermarket stereo installed in my 16 Colorado i ordered in its place. When i reached 25 k or so i started to have electrical problems. After 2 BCMs and a few weeks they started to blame the stereo. They gave me a bunch of nonsense why it wasn't communicating with the BCM , a wire might have the wrong ohms...etc, etc...lol  I know enough about electronics to know the head service guy was BSing me.   They told me they would be "nice" and even though it was probably the stereo and i had altered the truck and broke the warranty they would fix it under warranty anyway.  A few days later it was fixed after them having it for two weeks. So i come down and they tell me the second BCM fixed it and you owe us one this time etc. Lucky for me the nice service lady who likes me there said tell him what you fixed. They weren't going to mention that it was a shorted fuse block that was the problem the whole time. Had nothing to do with the stereo...  So i asked if it was the fuse block all along and acting all red faced they didn't answer.

The story is a lot longer with them but you get the idea. I have a new service department now after today's experience with this new dealer. They actually got something right..lol  So, i really wanted to have GM install this so there would be no question and it would be under warranty.  Even though i spent a little more than i wanted, at least i feel i'm covered now. I was advised by the first dealer to go to a stereo shop to get it done with non GM parts...lol

I'm also having this new dealer put a level kit on it Thursday. Its going to cost me 310.00 vs 225.00 at the speed shop. I asked and as its GM parts from them (70.00 extra over the speed shop part), any problems will be under warranty also. After all the hassle with my last two trucks, its worth it for me to kick in a few extra bucks for peace of mind. I also have a 110k extended warranty transferred over from my last truck.

Okay here is the update:

Had the dealer install remote start today, 2 new key fobs @ 275 + labor for 459 total. Yea I know, hold the "you couda's"

lol

had the truck for 3 hours with an oil change, wash and a recall taken care of.

As of now I am happy!

Called the Mylink app for them to update and that should happen in the next few days.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Hi, everyone looks like you have a great forum here. I have a 2016 Chevy 2500 hd lt with power door locks and no remote entry system it does have the tire pressure sensor system. I purchased a Doorman key fob and programmer. With key in run position plugged the programmer it beeped, the "remote key learning activate" came up in the information center,  I pressed both lock buttons for over 30 seconds and nothing happened. Called Chevy  to have them sell me a fob and program it. They said they had never done it and would try it but if it didn't I would still have to pay for their effort. Any ideas?   Thank you

I have a 2019 Silverado wt. can I program key fobs to lock and unlock without going to dealership

Welcome to the site.

Did your truck come with the equipment for keyless entry installed already? Did you buy the fobs after you bought the truck?

It has power locks on door and I haven’t bought any key fobs yet. I guess my question would be if I bought key fobs on amazon could I program them. I don’t know a lot about vehicles but just by watching YouTube vids

Truck has to have the RKE equipment installed, power locks are part of it, but not the main component.

There is a "transmitter" in the truck (if equipped) that receives the signal from the fobs and controls the functions.

I know this is a dead horse but do you happen to know who they called.  My dealer says it’s possible but the tech line says they can’t figure it out.  Purchased the entire kit from the dealer.

    • I see some red flags.   - No mention in the Carfax if the oil pump belt was changed.  LM2s had a 150,000mi service interval, and its got 164,245mi on it.   - If something happens to the transmission valve body, the special coverage is expired by mileage.  That will likely be an out of pocket expense, with zero or near zero GM participation if something happened even though its in by time.   - 2020 LM2s seem to need timing chains after 80,000mi at some point.  They fixed this end of 2020/starting 2021 model year engines.     - Long oil change intervals.  7,000-8,000mi on average, probably close to 0% or perhaps to or beyond 0% on the OLM.  Lots of them not at the dealer which makes me wonder how much of the oil ran through that truck was the proper Dexos D rated 0w20 oil and not just gas engine 0w20, which is not the same at all.     - Long fuel filter changes, again likely taking the fuel filter life to 0% or more.  First one went 28,603, second was done 43,094 miles later at 71,697, from there another 46,452mi to 118,149mi, and then the most recent one 37,026mi later at 155,175mi.  So counting its original fuel filter, its had only 4 fuel filters on it.  No bueno IMO.     Good news?    - It has had only two warranty trips to the dealer.  The first free service (end of December 2020 on the Carfax), and the transmission reprogram recall (end of August 2025 on the Carfax).     - Truck did a LOT of moving, so that might explain the lack of emissions related repairs like bad NOX sensors, bad exhaust temp sensors, bad glow plugs, etc.     The "emissions system checked" could just be how something was flagged for Carfax.  GM dealers have to do SAVI reports for warranty repair orders so they scan the truck.  So its possible that is there for that?
    • Thank you, @Z45!   NOTE - No all repair shop/Dealers reports to Carfax   That is my main concern.  The CARFAX looks way too clean for a 6 year old anything with 164,245 miles.  Even something known for reliability (like many Toyotas) typically has a lot more replaced, like a Nav screen, interior trim, shock/strut, or brake pads.  And surely the last set of tires (installed at ~58k miles) would be bald unless those were all highway miles.   I'm tempted to pay a local dealer to look up the VIN, but am not sure if that will be worthwhile.  Last time I did this, it was 100% useless, and I felt scammed - they noted the bumper was replaced years ago and that's it.  A 5-year old could spot the accident damage, even though nothing was on the CARFAX.   After giving the dealer a call, the truck may have a hard shift, but they have to verify with their mechanic if that's even a concern.  And I've test driven about a dozen of these now, many near Chicago, and half the trucks shift hard/odd at all throttle positions.  The ones with aftermarket lifts/larger tires shift terrible, and 3 stock trucks shifted so violently I thought the transmission valve body was going out.   At this point I'm conflicted, as I need a vehicle, and am coming up short locally.  Northern trucks in this price range tend to have either multiple owners, a lot of mods (lifts/oversized tires without re-gearing), and are generally in rougher shape.   If this truck showed up in your neighborhood for $27k and you had to purchase it sight-unseen, with the possibility of needing a 10L80 rebuild, torque converter, or rear end - would you do it?  I'm convinced most of the 10L80 trucks I test drove are broken, they can't all shift so bad, with massive flares/slipping/lurching and mis-matched downshifts like a teen driver learning stick.
    • From the spy shots, the front end does look like it's borrowing some styling cues from the Canyon. I'm more interested in the powertrain news than the screens though. If the 3.0 diesel survives into the next generation, that alone will keep a lot of current owners interested.
    • What is this tuner you mentioned that can shut the system off?
    • I had it tested at the hardware store, and it showed no chip. He went out to started the truck today and it wouldnt fire. He waited an hour then tried again, and it started 3 times. In a row. My 2000 cavalier did not have a chip key, but still had a security system.  🤷‍♀️
