2005 GMC Sierra 1500 HD - slow fill

I have checked for blockage of the fill tube as best I might while not taking the lines off, and have found nothing (coat hanger and snake). Sometimes, it takes it at regarding 0.5 the speed the pump can place it in at, most of the time it takes American state ten minutes to fill the tank from empty.

Sounds like the tank vent is clogged or blocked.  As the fuel goes in, the air it displaces has to come out.

Here is an easy way to test it.

First - Disconnect the vent valve hose. Take your vehicle to the gas station and try to get fuel.

If it takes fuel replace - http://amzn.to/2C5h6DQ ( $55 - Vent Solenoid )

If it does not take fuel disconnect the canister hoses. Take it to get fuel.

If it takes fuel replace - http://amzn.to/2H1JytF  ( $119 - Canister )

If it does not take fuel go thru the fender well and disconnect the evap hose to the fuel pump. Go back and get fuel.

If it takes fuel replace the hose from the fuel pump to the canister (can fill up with trash. Have seen it before) GM ORDER ONLY

If it does not replace - http://amzn.to/2Edw2Sf ( $80 - Fuel pump )

On my 2010 I have found that angling the pump helps. insert the nozzle and then raise the handle to angle the nozzle back toward you. if you were looking at the handle from the side kind of a counterclockwise motion. Sucks that you have to stand there and hold it but it has worked multiple times for me. the place where I get my E85 from, that pump is so slow even locked on the fastest setting takes 10 mins to fill

I just had this problem on my 04. It was the vent solenoid. In my case instead of replacing it I popped it off the truck and just let it hang under there by the tubing. There is a cap on the thing that can be removed with a flathead screwdriver. I then brought the air compressor hose under there and blew it all out, it was very dirty and found even small rocks in it. I would try this before spending any money on parts. Here are a few great reads that I found on this forum on the subject you should find them informative.

Thanks to everyone who posted.  The exhaust canister was the problem - it's running good.  Sorry, I forgot to give you this update and really appreciate everyone's comments.

Good info posted.

It takes me 15 minutes to fill my Cruze diesel but then that is because I fill it up to the cap and diesel likes to foam.  Now if only they can blend diesel so it doesn't foam we would all be happy. One good thing about it being a diesel is I can fill to top like that every time so I know my exact mileage and it doesn't hurt it since there isn't an evap system on it like a gas vehicle.
