Past service work

Was wondering how to obtain copies of past warranty service and other service work on my 2014 Silverado---tried contacting GM and they said could't do it because of proprietary concerns---asked them how carfax does it--they said they didn't know but they couldn't release any info--any other avenues I might be able to pursue--thanks

I have looked up the car fax on cars I have returned off lease and the information was useless. I had one car that had the engine replaced, car fax listed it as an electrical issue.  Not even close. Would OnStar have a record?

Was it a dealer you were talking to?

Did they know that you owned the truck or did they think you were just trying to check on one you were considering buying?

If they know you own it should be able to give you all the service history they have recorded.

If it was serviced at non-GM there may not be much history in the GM system.

Some vehicle make it through with little or no warranty work.

The 'free' oil changes do go through as 'warranty', if the previous owner took advantage of them.

It's also possible that the 'warranty' service, including the oil changes could have been done at multiple dealers -- and since the GM computer system ties the work together under the VIN, it should give the history no matter where the work was done (provided it was not at an independent shop)

I was talking directly with Chevrolet customer service

Told them I had just bought the truck and provided them with the VIN

They told me that the records belonged to the previous owner and could not be released to me---seemed strange as it was a lease vehicle and may still have been owned through GMAC and in service for around 2 years---according to Auto Check---just seems a little fishy

Thanks

I’ve always been able to walk up to a dealers service advisor with keys in hand or the vehicle nearby, and ask for the service history. A quick check of the VIN and a few mouse clicks later and I have a copy hot off their printer. But I’m not surprised they wouldn’t play ball over the phone.

Toyota provides this info via their website when you join and link your vehicle. Contains all service work done at a dealer location, including TSB work or any recalls. Also includes th e most minute service work

Chevrolet doesn't---you have to input your own info and then you track it yourself---When I scheduled the truck for warranty work I asked the service manager if she could get me info I wanted and she said no problem--so we will see--thanks
