Going to synthentic at 500 miles

I'm assuming going directly to synthetic oil at 500 miles should be fine? Not familiar with the new break in procedures.

I'd go to 2000-3000 miles and then change over to synthetic and then be happily ever after.  Go maybe 5000-6000 miles and then change out the front and rear diff and transfer case fluid.

EDITED:

OP, you failed to mention if you are gas or diesel?

My 2016 had factory synthetic blend, but changed to full Mobil-1 at 500 miles...

Dealership has been full synthetic for 1 year now...

Have always changed oil at 500 on new "Factory" engines and replaced stock pan plug with magnetic..

My big and small block race motors were changed at 2 hours of run time on dyno and 500 street time..

New engines are tough, but It cant hurt...

Gotcha.  6.0 gas, the factory fill went to full synthetic as of the end of the 2016 model year.  No need to switch to it as it was born with it, just pick your flavor and run with it.

Sounds good, Thanks!

change oil at 1500 miles then do the oil minder % when it dets to 10%.

All dexos oils are either full or semi synthetic.

I personally go about 1000 miles on the factory oil then switch to whatever I will be using.  One wants to make sure that all residue from manufacturer is out of the various areas of the motor then get it out of there with an oil change.  I change oil annually, but then, it normally doesn't rack up over 7000 miles in a year.

I use the same reasoning for the rest of my drive train, except I normally go to 5000 miles and then change out all of those fluids... trans, diffs, xfer.

I really don't worry about synthetic or conventional.  I focus my attention on the additive package that makes up around 20% of any motor oil.  My 2006 Cadillac CTS 3.6, GM calls for M1 5w30 in it.  I have only used Pennzoil conventional 10w30 in it.  The Pennz has a fantastic additive package with a huge dose of Moly and high in detergents. A respectable level of Zinc also.  I looked it up at the Petroleum Quality Institute of America website and it even puts many full synthetics on the shelf to shame in many ways.  Either way, this 13 year old Caddy will continue to have a home with us.  It is a great car and will continue to get Pennz 10w30 conventional.

My 2015 2500 pickup and my heavy truck get a syn blend, but that is, again, because of the stellar add pack in the brand I get from my commercial oil supplier and I can get it at a competitive price compared to most conventional and syn blends on the shelf.  The heavy truck just turned 838,000 miles, and everything is original on the motor except a couple of exhaust manifold bolts.  And I just got the last oil sample back and it looked as good as when the motor had 50,000 miles on it.  And the motor uses less oil than many GM pickups.... about 1 qt every 11,000 miles.  And that motor is a factory reman motor with 838,000 miles since the reman.

I only use a full syn in some air cooled motors.  Other than that, the cost benefit ratio just isn't there.
