just replaced the 12$ brake switch based on youtube vids saying it would fix it. light on wheel comes on but nothing on dash. 08 extended cab 5.3 4x4 work truck. won't cruise. tmps light is on btw and says service system because of after market wheels.

Make sure brake switch is in correctly.  I replaced mine and took it for a drive and still no CC.  Looked at again and had it in wrong.

Scan for codes. As I recall cruise may not set if certain codes are present

just checked and no codes.

brake switch sure looks like its in the right way what else could it be? surely its not because of the tmps service system message?

Did you check the fuse?  Fuse #43 in the underhood fuse block...

in there now, the fuse is fine, little white crusty I scrapped it clean and wiggled it back in and out a few times. no change :(

When your driving have you tried to pull up on brake pedal from underneath?  If the cruise control starts working it could be a bad brake pedal pos switch.

Check to see if the fuse socket has power, using a voltmeter. One side should be hot, the other not. You will want to confirm that the entire system has power. If not, where does it stop?

thank you very much for the speedy help gents!

I got it working after turning off the aftermarket trailer brake controller the PO had in it. Theres no reason why it shouldn't work with it on but oh well, cruise now works!!!!!

thanks!

Sweet. Glad ya got it sorted out. Sometimes the "how to fix" is more important than "why did the fix work".

I worked on a motorhome the other day. Left or right blinker selection caused all 4 blinkers AND all 4 parking lights to blink. The lights did not blink at all, until you turned the turn signal on, then every damn light in the vehicle blinked. WTF.  2 hours of electrical diagnostics later, I figured out that the emergency flasher was activated. It was a tiny little switch hidden on the steering column just below the steering wheel. Somehow the flasher was not working properly, but it was also tied into the running lights?

Anyway, the problem was solved, and I will never know how or why the solution fixed the problem.
