Dynamat Entire Truck

Recommended Posts

Had some spare time and decided to Dynamat the entire interior of my truck.  I removed the seats, center console, B & C pillar covers and rear cab factory liner.  I had done the doors a few weeks ago when I upgraded the speakers.  Dynamated all exposed sheet metal then put Dynaliner down.  While apart, I pulled the Bose sub out and replaced it with a Pioneer powered sub.  Still need to get the front seats and console back in and then try it out.  Was thinking about dropping the headliner and doing the roof, but need to get the truck back on the road.

Here's a pic of the back of the cab.    More pics at paauto.weebly.com - here you can see the pneumatic foot switch i installed on the dead pedal to control my light bar.  Also a pic of my dog helping me.

Any difference in noise? These trucks are pretty quiet in my opinion. I did some cut up matting on my doors. I plan on doing the entire truck when i upgrade the steep.

Haven't driven it yet since i did the floors and rear wall.  Still need to get the front seats in it.  I really could notice it after i did the doors though.  The B & C pillers are echo chambers.  I should have snapped a before pic, but lots of cut outs in them that let noise resonate.  I think the B pillars will be a huge improvement b/c they're right at our ears.

Raining today - will try to get seats in if the rain stops and will let you know.

What sub did you use to replace the console sub?

Went with a Pioneer TS-WX130DA Powered Subwoofer.  Purchased it from Crutchfield.  I hooked up the feed using the factory subwoofer feed.  The blue/black lead is the +.

I wonder if all trucks are prewired. It would be great to use this to tap into the subwoofer channel.

Here are the speaker wiring schematics for all the trucks by RPO.  I'm only seeing dedicated subwoofer wiring for UQG and UQA RPOs.

Hey I'm curious about you mentioning the B pillars here.  There's a large forum on here about guys having a Tick or clicking sound in their B pillars - especially during warmer weather - and was wondering if you had that too before you put the Dynamat in the pillars?  The noise has come and gone for me all summer and its really annoying when it happens.  Been thinking about taking the pillar trim off and putting Dynamat on the metal in there to see if that would stop it.

I did not have the ticking / clicking noise.   Dynamat will likely help, even if it's plastic on plastic because it will reduce the echo effect and otherwise just deaden the space in there.  If you decide to do it, I'd suggest you remove the driver's seat so you can really get at it.  Removing the seat is easy - two torx bolts at the back of each rail.  Unbolt the seat belt from the seat first and also disconnect the wiring harness.

Hey thanks for the suggestion on this.  I've been all over the internet trying to find pics of Dynamat applications inside B pillars and surprisingly haven't found very many.  I think I need to just take it apart and see what I'm up against.  (I had it off once last year trying to hunt down the sound but don't quite remember all the details on what it looked like in there)

For $20, you can get a three day subscription to the GM / Delco service website for your VIN.  Here's the link.

https://www.acdelcotds.com/subscriptions#

This is what the techs use (or should use) to do all repairs.  It will give you step by step details on how to remove and reassemble things, including torque specs.  Also, if you have the capability you can print the instructions to PDF and save them for future reference.  Over three days, you can troll through all the repairs you might do on your truck (brakes, suspension, etc.).  I've used this a couple of time when I'm working on the truck.  Definitely allows you to plan your method of attack!

if you need parts (i.e. a broken clip, lost screw, or anything else for the truck) you can find it at the following website.

https://www.gmpartscenter.net/auto-parts/2017/gmc/sierra-2500-hd/denali-trim/6-6l-v8-diesel-engine

Hope this helps.
