Eat right, stay fit, die anyway.  Eat crappy, die happy.  Just kidding.  no guarantees out there my friend.  My dear sweet old widowed mother  who is now 75 is in a long slow death from cancer.  It is slow because she has a relatively healthy body otherwise.  The cancer is in her legs and moving up and taking it's time because of how healthy the rest of her body is.  Sadly Chemo and Radiation won't stop it.  She ate fruits and veggies and made healthy choices much of her life.

Now my dad on the other hand.. died from a massive heart attack while out exercising.  He was 56.  He exercised for 1.5 hours a day 6 days a week- sometimes 7.. since his college football days.  didn't let a blown knee and bad back stop him.  He had a complete physical and heart stress test done 3 months prior to his heart attack.  He was so healthy they couldn't get his heart to go into stress mode.  And 3 months later.. the massive heart attack that took him while he was riding his bike.  A heart imaging scan may have detected the clogged arteries though.  And yes he ate relatively healthy as well for most of his life.

I am hopeful that they can figure out what is going on with you and get it taken care of.  God bless you.

Cheers

I think it’s at least 75 percent genetic. My fathers side of the family lived well into the eighties. Those that didn’t it was from smoking. My father is in his mid eighties and a diabetic, his mothers side. Probably only been to the doctor two- three times. The only reason we found out about the diabetes was he finally passed out and we called an ambulance. They finally got him stable sent him home with insulin and pills. He was running out and still wouldn’t go to the doctor. Finally my sister was able to get pills from Canada. If it wasn’t from diet and pills from Canada dad would have died and of course mother. She’s finally stronger than him a says she’ll kick his ass if he didn’t behave. He’s a classic example of a person who’s value in his mind was net worth and working. Never could slow down to smell the roses. Claims no belief in the after life, could have something to do with it. Lucky me and my brothers work together and married into families that showed us brothers there was more to life than working. I’m one of the few so far that retired early enough to enjoy the fruits of my hard work. See the doctor once a year. Be thankful that your one of the lucky ones that have the opportunity to enjoy life and do that.

Mentioned this post to Sugar Bear at dinner and she got the sad face. She related a fellow she worked with who was in his 50's, a life time vegan and exercise nut just died of a heart attack. Genetics does play a large roll. I think no matter what your genetic markers may be a mindful diet and a bit or work is still a good thing. I told her the guy she worked with might have died at 30 without his routine. That made her smile.

For as long as man has been on earth; for as intelligent as humans are as a species; for as much as we fight to stay healthy and alive I find it surreal that we believe that we can still find or contrive solutions to our biggest problems. Death being primary among them, yes.

We continue to believe in our own power to cure death, an illusion we've had for about as long as we've been a species and yet find it impossible, for many, to believe in the Christ that already raised the dead and promised to do so again.  Anyway, just a thought that might be worth having....or not.

My total cholesterol has been 190- 210 for years.

I eat a good diet, not perfect.

Exercise and stay active.

The genetics part could be a factor.

My issue is I felt like the doc was selling me on more tests. Granted more info would be beneficial.

I put doctors in the same category as a auto dealership service department, a fast lube joint etc.

You take your car in for an oil change and they find other repairs.

It's their job IMO.

Most test they do are the release from liability kind. Doctors are kinda in a box in our sue crazy world. They can think one way but unless a test can back them up, their hands are tired.

Go to your family doctor, get full blood work done and if he finds “anything” ask him to refer you to a trusted specialist. I’ve got a buddy of mine that never exercised a day in his life, smokes like a chimney, very over weight, lives his life on the road as a source of self entertainment. He’s on some sort of anti cholesterol drug and his most recent test showed him completely clear arteries.

Had my yearly physical done in January(2019) after my trip to E.R. for high blood pressure in December(2018).

Full blood work up.

Primary doc put me on lisinopril for blood pressure.

Going to think about my next move.

Oh yes cigarettes. When I was growing up every body smoked all the time. I believe with will power you can do anything in moderation even smoking. Every thing is bad in excess. My very large family we lost two to cancer. Those aren’t bad odds even if we didn’t smoke. I quit at 40, two packs a day, for 20 years. I don’t recommend doing it. The same people who crusaded against it are pushing pot now, go figure. The government, OH! OH! It’s bad, don’t outlaw it tax it. You know for our own good. Next thing you know they’ll be taxing soda for our own good..... oh wait a minute they are.

Ah yes test. I had a bone density done about 10 years ago. Doctor said results were just awful. Put me on some meds and added supplements to my diet. Then I find out the score she gave me was a comparative number...to a 30 year old male. Compared to my score for those males of my age group I found out I was in the top 5%. Z score v T score if I remember right.

Old colon camera same year...yep they find "pre-cancer" cells and removed them right then and there. Then I find out ten years later this hospital 95% of the time FINDS pre cancer cells regardless of the truth. ( I know a lot of the staff there socially. Two in billing)

So why do they do this? Because insurance pays more if they FIND something AND you get to repeat the test every 5 years instead of every 10 years. They double dip the insurance and yes, fear is a great motivator UNTIL you catch then in a lie then....I will likely die believing some truth is a lie because I can't tell the difference anymore. Now there is some therapy sessions in the making...eh? I fired her and got me a country doctor.

Last trip to urgent care has the doctor telling me I have prostate cancer...go to the hospital  NOW......Nope, no cancer but I got a nice bill for the X-ray, CAT and Ultrasound tests. Follow up with my guy for the rubber glove and a PSA...nope. Fire the hospital. I have several in the area. But hardly the point, right?

Even Rex's Vet is on the 'pull his leg and money will fall out of his butt" buss. Have a new Vet. Good Lord.....And people wonder why I'm GRUMPY??????? :fume:

My wife had a hysterectomy 8 years ago pretty routine now days with robotics. Healed up nicely. About a year later strange symptoms started showing up. Her digestive system started slowly down. You know how it works you go to your GP and he recommends specialist in the program off you go. The problem is ifs there’s a hint someone messed up the cover up begins. Turns out there was a power outage during surgery. Due to construction the red plugs weren’t working so the generator wasn’t powering them. Turns out the surgery wasn’t finished. Ligaments weren’t attached so her insides weren’t supported properly. This causing compression slowing down of internal organs. Scary right? Add to that hernias cases by uncontrolled laser fire when the power kept going out from a storm passing through and the red plugs disconnected. Finally we decided to go out of market with our own dime and start over. We found two doctors that after a few more years of surgery’s to repair the mistakes of the original mess up all was returned to 80 percent. Our insurance did cover the out of market expenses after a threat of lawyer involvement. We didn’t think anything about that the original doctor had retired after the surgery when he wasn’t around for a follow up visit. Don’t even trust doctors blindly, do the research. If we didn’t after the fact, I hate to think how my wife would have suffered.

All doctors can do is their best.  They aren't perfect.  Nothing is.  Except burgers from Red Robin.

I have to give you credit. Red Robbin makes a great burger.

I could give another doctor mistake that almost cost my daughter life at two years old. I don’t want to be a doctor basher. Probably most are there to help people. Let’s not be naive, some are in it for the money.

The difference between a really doctor and a really good mechanic...well....other than the obvious? A good one in one in a thousand or more maybe.

Ex had Cushing's Disease. Adrenal tumor. Radiology says it's as big as a grapefruit so the put her on her back and cut a Chevron that leaves her with nothing but her spine in holding top to bottom. Empty her into a stainless bowl to get at the Kidney area. Guess what? It's about almond size and could have been removed with a 1" cut between the ribs from the back. Doctor blames radiology for improper scaling. Radiology blames the Doctor for talking a tech's word for such an important thing. While arguing they for get to tell the staff that she needs to be on a supplement until the remaining gland starts producing or she dies in hours. Doctor blame the nurse, nurse blames the doctor. I pick her up and carry her out of the war zone.....

Ex blames me and divorces my sorry butt. I forgave the Doctor.

aging?

Some of us are falling apart without any help from aging, disease does it for us; my shoulder, elbow, and knee are in a race to see what gets replaced first, I need a fusion in one foot and I won't start on my back.. And I'm only been in my 30s for a few years

Good news is you are still making posts!
