jt metal Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 '06 GMC Sierra 2500hd. I have the factory wiring still in glove box. Inexpensive controller? First hand experience is much appreciated. Thanks guys!! Am i wrong?
davester Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 I've only seen standalone TBC's (ie, that have a small bracket to bolt it to the dash), that then plug into the junction box near the pedals. That looks a little curved as well, so it might be for the next generation truck (7.5 and later). But if you want better info, you should (IMHO) post the specific brand/model info, or a link to the device online.
jhplak325 Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 GMT800 and older trucks did not come with a factory brake controller, the GMT800’s came prewired for an aftermarket brake control. You can use any brand - Curt, Draw-Tite, Tekonsha, etc... You can even get a plug and play wire harness so you don’t need to splice any wires together.

The bundle with loose wires on one end and square connector at the other is called the Electric Brake Control Jumper and is for use with an aftermarket electric brake controller. This was included and only works with those trucks originally equipped with the heavy-duty trailer wiring package.
Grubbworm Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 My truck came prewired for a brake controller. I used the one that I had previously purchased for my older FORD Truck. It was a Prodigy P3 trailer Brake Controller. I just purchased the adapter for that controller that fit my GMC Truck. Then it was plug and play. I got everything I needed at www.etrailer.com.
jt metal Posted January 4, 2019 Author Posted January 4, 2019 I'm only going to use this controller once or twice. I was praying for a cheaper solution. $150.....trailer including cargo is around 3500lbs..... haha...you guys know what I'm thinking.

Here's one for under $30.00; https://www.etrailer.com/Brake-Controller/Tekonsha/39523.html When I got my Tekonsha Prodigy P3, it was on sale for $99.

jt metal Posted January 16, 2019 Author Posted January 16, 2019 I ended up getting this one for $33.00. pulled double axle, 3,500lbs, no problems. Probably never use it again.
carkhz316 Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 Thank you for being safe and using one instead of just winging it like some people do.
