Bumper Damage

Yesterday during my lunch hour a genius decided to use my parked truck's bumper to help him stop.   Luckily he was going slow & didn't look like he damaged his POS Prius.  While at my table at the restaurant I saw him hit my truck, get out of his vehicle to look at the damage, then hopped back in his effin' Prius & drive away.   Didn't have time to get outside and stop him. Thanks to this amazing person my truck now has a nice little dent & a couple scratches on the drivers side of the rear bumper.

So now its time to figure out how to fix this.  Anyone use a paintless repair shop to fix something like this?  Is the gage of the steel to thick to fix & require a new bumper replacement instead?  What have others done?

Way to thick for PDR. Being a painted bumper it can be fixed and repainted or replaced or use bumper shelz

I put a nice dent in my chrome bumper a few months ago like yours. I hit the concrete base of a light pole in my fire departments parking lot while backing up.

Anyway I found the chrome bumper part on amazon and decided to replace myself. It was a total pain in the ass, all the plastic minus the steps are held on by these little tabs you have to squeeze and then shove through the chrome part, it was time consuming, about 5 hours.

If I was to do it again, I would by a whole new bumper that would just bolt up to the frame. Which would be like an hour job and like $100 more! You have to jack up the bed a little bit, but it’s super easy.

Keep in mind you have a painted bumper, might be worth submitting to insurance!

It's a painted bumper, so getting it fixed and repainted is an option. Chrome plated bumpers can't be without all the chrome flaking off eventually.

Get a quote from a body shop and see what they ask. If it's out of your comfort zone, make an insurance claim. It's what you pay them for, anyway.

Just may check with a shop. Gonna take a closer look this weekend, however I discovered this morning that corner of the body is pushed in slightly & now there's a slight rub at the corner of the tailgate.  How soft are these damn metals these days?

The sheet metal is pathetically thin.

I even slightly bent the bumper on my 2014 BY HAND.

Watch for the rubbing on the bedside where the bumper touched inside the pocket. If it rubs thru the paint you could have a situation where u need to file and claim and have the bedside painted as well to prevent corrosion. This is pretty common on rear end collisions on pickup trucks.
