Spend my money... aka help me chose tires

I am really impressed with the Toyo AT'2 33x12x20 on my All Terrain.  Been in rain, mud and they have been more than solid.  Slight whine on the highway but very smooth and handle great on the pavement.

About 7K so far on mine and would get them again in a heartbeat.  Good luck.

Well I’ve got ST/Maxx’s On my truck and they really aren’t a ‘mudder’ tire. They are well behaved on the street and excel off road. I run a 33.3" tire.

And I do drive off road. A lot.

I also like AT3’s, and I have a set with 50,000miles on them and they will be my spring/summer tire. I’ve easily got another 15,000 miles on them.

A word of caution on the Nitto's- they have a nasty reputation for blowing out, especially off-road. They were a popular larger sized tire for Tacoma and Jeep owners, and there are quite a number of documented failures. I know one Jeeper here in Helena that had a blow out on an easy but rocky Jeep trail. Pretty much everyone that I know that off roads sticks with GoodYear, Coopers or Hankooks.

If you have a street queen- no problem. But if you you travel back country like a lot of us do- Nitto's are not an option.

You are thinking of duratracs...long time tacoma guy here as well.

Currently sitting at 64K on my Nitto Ridge Grapplers, 295/70R17.  Plenty of towing miles included, rotated every 10K ish.     Will be ordering another set here soon!

In a small number of these recall tires, production variances in the belt package during the relevant production periods may have created conditions that may put undue stress on the belt edge, according to Toyo. If undetected, this condition may potentially contribute to a tread/belt separation and/or loss of inflation pressure, which may increase the risk of tire failure and a vehicle crash.

There were two or three threads on the Tacoma forum where those tires had impressive blow-outs. I don't know if Toyo fixed the problem or not..

I am willing to bet they fixed this problem consider the recall was 4 years ago... Recall was only on HT tires.  And if you don't think other manufactures don't have recalls on tires, pretty much all of them have.  I have also seen gnarly blow outs on the trail by almost all tire mfrs... Namely duraflops toasting sidewalls.

Personal experience here, no issues with Nittos.  Logged over 100k between two sets and just ordered a third set.  Also had a set of Goodyear MTRS that held up very nice on my old long travel second gen taco running super low pressure w/ beadlocks.

Tirebuyer has a $100 rebate right now on Nittos for anyone interested.

I remember this guy being affected.

All I'm saying is I'm not going to buy them. I know all tire company's have issues at some point, but it just happens that I hear Toyo/Nitto horror stories more frequently.  I know Cooper has recalls, GoodYear etc.. However I've had at least 6 sets of Coopers in the past 12 or 15 years with zero issues.

That’s sad. I once gashed the side of my AT tires and thought nothing of it until same thing happened and split from the wall just like that. I bet the wall was damaged and being how many people are, didn’t replace it and then that happened. Never heard of issues with Nitto or Toyo. I’ve heard KO2’s doing the same thing but never happened to me in all my years until I damaged the wall and to lazy to go switch it out.

I’m running a Zone 4.5” on XD Enduro 122 18x9 0 offset and 305/65r18 Falken Wildpeak AT3W. I had a little bit of rubbing and had to trim the plastic. So far the tires have been great, have 7k on them and no signs of wear.

That's a nice looking truck! Can you show me a picure from the front (to see how much your tires stick out? I'm having trouble finding 10" wide -24 offset rims that I like and that are in stock).

Also will you measure how tall your roof like is?

Measured the work garage yesterday I have 12" from my Gps antenna to ceiling.

Got this cost breakdown. What you guys think? Kit price is good, tire and wheels are actually pretty good too. Thoughts? I have another shop in mind but they keep jacking me around trying to find tires and rims they'd be maybe a little cheaper but they arent a "4x4" shop. They are just a performance shop.

That’s typical lift with wheels and tires. Stop nickel and diming it and just do the damn thing lol, hurry up before either you or someone else changes their mind. Post pics too.

Alright guys this is what I landed on. Ended up deciding in the rough county 5" knuckle lift. It's going to be the perfect middle group between 4" and 5". Still allows me to be under 7 foot. Going to throw in the 2" rear wheel spacers to match the stance.

Decided to change to falken at3w tires also. 305/65/18.

Trucks going to be going under the knife on the 20th.

Price is pretty good in my opinion. $4500ish out the door. I also talked to them about trimming and stuff and they are very knowledgable about avoiding trimming and just pushing the liner back if needed if it even rubs.

I feel comfortable with this shop theyve been in business 35 years and all their reviews seem very positive unlike the other shop. Was very knowledgable on the phone and wasn't trying to sell me another kit or sell me expensive stuff. He wanted me to have what I want and provided unbiased info.

Plus they are throwing a loaner truck in for free for the 2 days they'll have my truck which saves me some money.

Just make sure they paint all cut metal so that’ll be another thing not to worry about. Why don’t you go with the knuckle kit for a couple hundred more without having to buy controversial spacers.

Not for sure but I heard no spacers are needed for knuckle kits. Good luck and post away

Knuckle lift pushes out the front tires an 1 1/2" per side, it's the bracket kit that keeps stock track width .

    • But Grumpy I did show several subdivisions that had homes starting in the 170K range. If you bought a Townhouse or Condo you could go cheaper. Same with a car 3000 dollars in the 70s translates to around 20K today. There are several models at that price. You actually get more for the money. In the 70s I drove a 3000$ car bought a 28K home and made 4.50 per hour. Thank goodness for overtime. Today I could buy a 170K house drive a 20K car and make 25 dollars an hour operating the same machine today. The difference the house, car, machine would be better and have AC. And I wouldn’t be taxed on overtime. And statistically your wife works too. Easing the burden. I thought we agreed to disagree. I brought receipts earlier, showing examples. I think you’re more stubborn than me. I was done with this debate.
    • I’m definitely interested to hear the end result here.
    • My 2025 Silverado 1500 had to receive a brand-new engine (long block) under warranty last month at only around 16,500 miles. Before the replacement, the truck repeatedly displayed "Engine Oil Level Low" warnings, even though the Oil Life Monitor still showed around 50% remaining after about 6,000 miles since my last oil change. After seeing the warning several times, I checked the dipstick with the engine cold, and the oil level was completely normal. The next day, the message escalated to "Add Engine Oil." At first, I assumed it was just a faulty oil level sensor, so I brought the truck to the dealership. After inspecting the engine, they found internal cylinder wall scoring and ultimately replaced the entire long block under warranty. Before this happened, I was planning to install a 4-inch lift and suspension upgrade on my truck. After needing a new engine at just 16,500 miles, I honestly don't see the point anymore. I also contacted GM to ask whether my vehicle qualified for a buyback, but I was informed that it does not at this time. Anyway, this experience has left me with serious concerns about the long-term reliability of this engine. I sincerely hope NHTSA expands the current investigation or recall to include 2025 model and performs a thorough inspection of affected vehicles. My biggest concern is that these engines may fail shortly after the powertrain warranty expires. If GM truly stands behind this engine, then at the very least, please consider extending the powertrain warranty to 10 years for affected owners. That would go a long way toward restoring customer confidence.
    • Without exception but then I'm the odd duck, right? I know what goes into that test, how it is calculated and thus how to beat it. But EPA values are often not beaten by the general public and the government has in past years adjusted the means and methods to come to those values to more closely approximate "Joe Average".    The only real trick to beating that EPA average is don't drive like "Joe Average".    It's the same method you used to profit from "Economic Migration" and in doing so beat the 'stats'. But you, like me, are not "Joe Average".     The thing you don't seem to grasp is this "Purchasing Power Index" isn't forward looking. It doesn't predict what it going to be but looks backward and states what it was. They are not telling us what the THINK, they are telling us what they MEASURED. Example:    Wife says "I'm going to lose 40 pounds by Christmas". May she does, maybe she doesn't but the doctors office who weighed her when she made that statement and again at Christmas only REPORTS what the RESULT was. You and I can banter about what was possible and what aunt Tilly did till the cows come home but the result is the result. Arguing otherwise is.....irrational. That's all I'm saying. This isn't about:      What you are calling a 'Statistic' is a RESULT not a CALCUATION and as a result the RULE. Like gravity as a rule, it can not be broken.
    • Just wanted to say thank you for posting this. Years later, your thread is still helping Silverado owners.   I bought my 2025 Silverado 1500 in January 2025, and I've had what feels like the exact same rattle since day one. After reading your findings, I believe my truck has the same issue with the cable carrier contacting the rear sliding window. To be honest, I had pretty much given up on pursuing the issue. It wasn't until I recently drove another brand's pickup that I realized just how quiet their cabin was—and how noisy mine has been all along. On my truck, the rattle happens on almost any paved road, gets even worse on rougher pavement, and I can even hear it during braking and acceleration.   I actually referenced your thread when submitting my case to GM, hoping they'll recognize this as a recurring issue instead of treating it as an isolated incident. The reason I reached out to GM first is because my dealership told me they would need to keep the truck for at least two days just to diagnose the problem. I was concerned that even after two days, they still might not be able to identify the source of the rattle before giving the truck back to me. I had also asked a few dealerships about this issue during previous service visits, but none of them seemed to know what was causing it or had a solution. That's why I decided to contact GM directly first, hoping they might already have an official repair procedure or guidance for this issue.   I also hope GM eventually comes up with an official fix for this problem. I have a feeling there are many Silverado owners experiencing the same rattle, but most either choose to live with it or simply don't know what the cause is.   Really appreciate you taking the time to document your diagnosis. Your post is still making a difference years later.
