I put the gm intake kit and reflashed the ecm on my 6.2 today. Definetely a noticable power increase. The funny thing is the shipping label on the box said it shipped from k&n industries lol. And the tune is just for mass airflow recalibration so the transmission doesn't end up with shifting issues because the tcm uses the maf sensor as a major input for shift timing etc..

I just installed the GM Cold Air Kit on my 2019 Silverado 6.2L. I had the chance to buy and compare both the K&N 63-3109 and the GM Part #  84789804. The price difference was about $85 more for the GM kit. On examining the over all kit construction and design of both, the GM kit is by far superior in fit, form and function. Better built and in my opinion and more durable. all the factory brackets and holes to attach wire looms are in the same place as the OE box I removed. The clear plastic top gives you the opportunity to see the filter for examination, plus it looks better than the K&N filter boxes solid black top. Also the hose on the GM kit that goes from the air box to the throttle body is heavier duty and the design will allow less leaks or loosening over time. It is the old story of, you get what you pay for! Is it more expensive than the K&N or other brand Cold Air kits, Yes. But when spending the amount of money on my truck that I did buying it new, why not buy the BEST. I have been in the Automotive Enthusiast for over 40 years, ASE Certified, worked for an Automotive Supplier for my whole career and I have seen a lot of accessories, installed many and did a lot of mods over the years and know when items are just right. This is the kit you want. Now for how it works, I also have the factory performance exhaust as well, the cold air kit did not add a lot of sound volume. You can hear it a tad more but not a bad sound note at all. Sounds better in my opinion. The throttle response is better and feels like it adds to the performance. From examining both kits, one will not give you any better power than the other. Don't get me wrong, the K&N kit is a nice piece of hardware and will work well, they make great products. I just prefer the fit,  form and function of the GM kit. Plus, it is also covered under the warranty program along with my truck, and you will never have to fight with the dealer if there is an engine management issue down the road as this is an OE kit. That makes a difference in itself. The GM kit has a dry filter media, which I prefer. Now, the above is just my impressions of the kits and my opinion. You will have your own and know what works best for you. Good luck to all of you out there with modding your trucks and whatever choices you make on products will make it your own unique

Hello Terry, I have this system and after reading the instructions, it says to replace the filter element part # 84428120 every 20K miles.  I thought it was washable like all of the other CAI's on the market.  These filters are $100.00 at the dealer and around $65 on line.  Are they telling me wrong or do you have to replace them.   Paul

Does anyone know with the GM Part #  84789804 Cold Air Intake if the filter media can be washed and reused or not.  The instructions say to replace the filter with a new one part number 84428120 every 20K miles.  Every other dry media CAI is washable.  These filters are hard to find and expensive..

I added the performance intake and exhaust to my 2020 Trail boss with the 5.3l 10 speed trans.   Better HP and better mileage , and it sounds amazing.  Adding the intake only wont do much without the exhaust.

I will have one for sale off my AT4 in a couple months. I did not know this till after I ordered my truck. I am getting whipples supercharger for my 6.2 and it gets rid of the GMC upgraded air filter. It will be brand new and I will probably advertise around 250 plus shipping. Send me a message if you think you will be interested.

I’m interested in purchasing

I wonder why no one noticed he has a TB, which still has the old 5.3 so a 2018 should be the correct one. It has AFM not DFM.

I believe he has an LT Trail Boss which has the newer engine, not like the Custom Trail Boss.

    • Even tougher is the 5.0 / 302. That's what this one has.    https://postimg.cc/Z9XRrCSg   https://postimg.cc/4n3F3yzY   Just realized I had the airbox removed in the engine pic, lol.
    • Yep! This should be a pin somewhere as @pgamboa really dives into all of this. Thanks for reposting the link!
    • I did the new thermostat after doing a 'flip' for a year. Runs as cool one way as the other in the summer but in the winter there is a bit of a floor. Yellow with the new 70 C thermostat. My data over the life of the unit to date. Still need more cooler. Anyway that floor helped both winter fuel economy and shift quality in the winter. I found it a good balance.
    • Evan Williams Bottled in Bond   So pouring the last of a bottle of Evan Williams Black label last night I set off the the state store for a refill only to be denied the by an empty shelf. Rats.    What the did have was a bottle of Evan Williams Bottled in Bond. 100 proof. Hum, a few bucks more but a known distiller. Lets have a swing at it. ( I have before )    Cracked it open and pour a serving over ice. Hum.... more heat, yes. More alcohol naturally. But the barreling not the proof brings the taste and this one came up short.    Oh is was familiar but the heat ran the barrel over like a Peterbilt runs over a squirrel. Could use a heavier toasting of the oak me thinks or perhaps a longer barreling. Who knows. But what I can say is ice or a water back isn't the answer. What kills one kills them both. Sad. It is a pleasant drink....if you have little to compare it to.
    • I've had exactly one set of Bridgestone. Lasted five year and 125,000 miles and had I known better 15oK would have been a cake walk. I would have bought a like set had they not tripled in price since the first set. I removed them at said mileage with 5/32" remaining in dead even wear all four. They were fuel efficient, quite, comfortable and predictable.    Early on I got a very good alignment checked at least once a year, sometimes twice; kept the tires properly inflated, balanced and rotated. And I've found that many a tire issue can be avoided with great maintenance practices. Lot's of tire dealers will do rotation and balance (simple) for free for as long as you own the tire they sold you so no excuse not to.    Bead prep, alloy integrity and stem health have a huge impact on inflation stability. There are more mountings done poorly that perfectly. Finding a good tire guy is gold and as important as finding a tire you like.    That 3X price increase now two sets of "other tires' later is starting look like a bargain.      Bad maintenance kills more tires than bad tires.
