I have a 2010 silverado with a 5.3. I am looking at cost for a complete engine from Chevy that I can replace mine with. Will a engine out of a newer silverado work with my computer and wiring harness? What is price and availability for a complete replacement?

Don't go to GM - go to a reputable engine builder. Google is your friend, there.

You'll be MUCH better served buying an engine built by a company that actually cares about longevity, and their reputation, than buying from a company that's sole purpose these days seems to be to steal every dollar they can from their customers.  No engine should fail in 9 years ... or less.

The engine builder will be able to tell you what will fit what, and what electronics you'll need. Typically you'll want to stick with the electronics the engine came with to avoid costly headaches.

If you get a reman from GM and it's installed by a dealer, it will carry a 100,000 mile warranty....It also will carry all of the running updates they have made on the production line. Does not mean you will get a 5.3 from a 2018, but if there are known issues with the model year engine, the machining will be updated as will parts.

It's been my experience (and many others on here) that you have to fight every single time you go in for any warranty issue. They always seem to have creative excuses for why the certain failure is not covered.

Not just GM here - the other domestic brands do the exact same thing.

If it were me, I'd want nothing to do with GM and their terrible customer service. After all, once was enough, right?

Fight every single time? Tell that to a GM tech doing warranty work everyday. Most of the day.

I don't blame the techs - it's GM Corporate. They're screwing their techs just as badly, if not worse, than their customers!

It's not the tech's fault - I wouldn't work for free, either.

The company builds SHIT, using the lowest bidders on every part, then expects their techs to repair them for free ... or, the customer to foot the bill. GM is as crooked as the day is long ...
