2020 Gasser 6.2L Not 6.6L?

GM website says tow ratings over 30,000lbs for 2020. 

Presumably 3500DRW., and Duramax.

and in other news Ford is offering a 6.2L and 7.3L Gasser for 2020 SD trucks.  So possibly GM is doing the same with 6.2L and 6.6L??

I appreciate the assistance, but that's the towing on a 3500HD dually that's stripped down. I need payload for the Denali 2500HD & 3500HD SRW.

Now I'm REALLY curious to see the HP & TQ on these engines. It would be a stretch to think that a 6.6L could beat out a 7.3L, especially if they are both mated to 10-speed transmissions.

We don't know how much over 30K. (but yes, it could be just dually versions)

Maybe all 3500's will be over.

 

In any case, it's a significant increase from current -- implying that all versions will have significant increases.

 

Hopefully the wait for full info won't be much longer.

Perhaps with the next stage of the HD Chev reveal expected soon?

Perhaps something came up in the testing of the 10-speed or whatever they were going to use and they don't feel comfortable yet using that and want to stick to a more true and tested design.

Unless they have done some SERIOUS reconfiguration to the gearing and shift points, a 6-speed won’t cut it up steep grades fully loaded even with the HP & TQ boost.  Just search 2017 2500 Ike gauntlet and you can see it wait until the truck lost almost 20mph before up shifting. 

 

I’ll wait on the testing, but if the 6.2L with more HP & more TQ can get a 10-speed, this just looks like GM fell behind... again.

10 speed is behind the engine with DOUBLE the torque output

 

If it's similar to the 6.0, the new gasser will have torque/hp sweetspot at double (+/-) the rpm of the dmax,.  

(6.0 torque max 4100, hp max 5600; 6.6 Dmax max torque 1600rpm, max HP 2800) 

 

Of course they could have made another 10 speed to suit the 6.6 gasser. 

Perhaps there is a 10L90 in the future to go with the 10L80

I wish the photos GM used were stupid CGI render crap.  Front end is really growing on me based on real shots of the truck.

I think somebody here described how the 6.0 can easily turn into a durable 6.6 a few weeks back, too. GM is saving piles of money not reinventing the wheel and is probably an excellent strategy. Not using the 10-speed is a mystery although rushing a new piece of equipment like that into a bunch of new models can end up being a corporate nightmare as well. Looking forward to see how these Big 3 HD gassers compare.
