Bluetooth question

I have a 2014 gmc sierra slt and when i connect my iphone 7 through Bluetooth, a phone call comes in it doesn’t ring through the trucks speakers. The phone itself rings is this normal or is there something wrong? I assume it should ring through the speakers any help would be appreciated ? btw this is my first gmc truck owned for only 3 weeks now

It should ring through the speakers and the info unit should have an option to answer the call.  Doesn’t sound like you have it paired. When it’s paired, you’ll be able to listed to music through your trucks’ speakers.  Try that to test it.

Your phone has a separate Bluetooth volume in the Bluetooth settings. The volume could be turned down in there.

Check the Bluetooth volume in the truck.

And do yourself a favor and just keep a iPhone cable in the truck and plug into that every time. The difference in sound quality between Bluetooth and being plugged in is pretty significant.

Ok thanks  i will. volume is up? Even with the volume reduced it still doesn’t answer my question though why my iphone rings though its own speaker and not through the speakers in the truck using bluetooth. i will keep searching i guess hopefully find some solution

When a call comes in does the display unit tell you a call is coming in and give you the option to answer?  I’m assuming you have steering wheel controls.  I’m trying to figure out if those are working?  This might come down to a quirk that, while annoying, doesn’t really impact your ability to use the phone.  I mean, if you can see that a call is coming in and can answer it and then the sound (callers voice) comes through the speaker, at least you will be able to use the phone.

Also note that having the volume up befor Bluetooth connects is not the same as having the Bluetooth volume up. After it connects when you increase the volume, the “Bluetooth” volume goes up.  Still, I don’t think it’s volume because, as you said, the ring is coming through the phone.  That shouldn’t be the case.

I second the comment that the phone works much better if you plug it in.

The display shows the call steering wheel buttons work callers voice comes through. I will try it plugged in , this has me baffled lol i will try my wife’s phone as well and see what that does thank you for your help I appreciate it

Last thing I know to try is the phone reset.  Push the round button and the button on the top right simultaneously until the Apple symbol shows up and then let go.  Phone will reset.  That tends to resolve some quirky problems.

Also, depending on how much you’ve done to the settings, you may not want to do this, but one of the options in the car settings is to reset to factory settings.  Fresh start with the phone and the car might get things working correctly.

Looking through the settings on the radio, looks like you can turn the ringer on and off there. Maybe that’s it. a58bf8ac952bad86e5668d69260329db.jpg
