If there has ever been a piece of information that needs to  be ignored from GM this is it. There is nothing normal about using a quart in five hundred miles, a thousand miles or even five thousand miles.

All that statement really says is they wont do anything about it until the most gullible person on earth won't tolerate it.

Check out the newest Generation 5.0L FERD with the sprayed in bore Liners...LOL! yeah baby, get you one!

agreed!

Those were two seperate statements about going 80-90 and towing trailers.  Either way more often than not Ive seen big rigs doing 80+ down our toll roads and rarely see a light truck towing above 70.  I do find it hard to believe that when Im doing 90 on the toll road the pvc system is sucking in 1 quarts worth of vapors per 500 miles.  In fact my catch can says otherwise.  However Im a realist and know since (in my situation) im not seeing any blow by, so the oil must have been vaporized and burned somewhere within the engine.  I still think its laughable to allow this much oil consumption.  I've had far cheaper vehicles that never burned a drop of oil that get driven as hard as my current truck.  I'll give GM the benefit of the doubt since I know their LS and LT engines are pretty solid and reliable.  Thats why my mustang has an LS in it.

Again, GM will generally warranty an engine that is tested by a dealer and is shown to be burning more than 1 quart per 2000 miles.

To actually drive 500 miles with the engine screaming at the top end of its RPM range the whole time would be extreme. The environment inside the crankcase would be extreme. It is totally plausible to carry that much oil out through the PCV system. Alllllll the way back to the days of the LS1, guys have reported pools of oil in the intake manifold after racing with their car. That pool of oil was right next to the PCV port on the manifold. That's why the "catch can" was originally created. All engines experience this issue when running very hard for a long time.

I’ve had 3 vehicles that use oil. A Ford and two GMs. A 94 Z28 1 qt every 2500 miles for the 130K miles we had it. A 99 Ford 4.6 V-8 F-150. At 20K I put a S/C on it over 100K miles no issues. My current 92 stroker with a Whipple, 1qt every 500 miles. Going on 9 years with this one. I’ve never been comfortable using oil. So far hasn’t effected the engine life. Even my pulling trucks didn’t use oil. My Z-28 did have a converter clog at 80K otherwise I just added oil.
