Boot up or down? Writing looks like boot should be down...
I’m driving into work tomorrow so I’ll see how ride is affected.

You know me all to well Andy!

Because the internals can give way at Any time rendering them worn, blown, useless or whatever term is appropriate.

Here is a picture of the Rancho shock at only 5300 miles.

If it looks like this on the outside what is happening on the inside?

And a short video of what happens to them when they fail.

Nothing more than a pogo stick which is exactly what mine turned into.

This is what they look like with 24k. ?

how long did it take to install?  (you just did the rears, right?)  I've never done it, but it seems much more simple than the fronts...

Install for the rears might take 15-20 minutes. Very basic tools ratchet and a wrench and that's it!. 4 bolts total.

do you even need a jack or just compress the shocks to install?  that seems really easy...

No jack
Just compress by hand

No Jack required. I did mine right in the driveway with a wrench and ratchet. Forget the size now. Compressing the shock can be tricky to hold it with one hand and slide the bolt through. As for the fronts I had a shop do that for me.

So now that you have had them on for some time, how overall satisfied are you with the bilsteins?
