2015 Silverado wiper cowl

My 2015 Silverado rubber/ plastic wiper cowl trim has faded to a white gray color instead of black. Tried using the restore black plastic polish with no luck. Anyone else have this problem? Suggestions?

Once the surface is oxidized, there isn't much to do but replace it.

If you prep it well and prime it, you can paint it. It looks okay, but then it doesn’t match the other trim pieces correctly. I agree that replacing it is the best option.

Go to the Home Depot. Get a can of Flood Penetrol and wipe it on with a clean rag on the faded plastic. Let it dry and get ready to be amazed.

The reason these plastics look like that is that the oils have dried up, right?  You can try the heat gun thing that will bring the oil to the surface, but that looks splotchy and takes a while.  I'd also avoid those "back to black" and "forever black" type dyes that will wear out quickly.  

 

I havent tried yota's suggestion before, but I use something similar cause it was in the garage already, outdoor wooden furniture oil.  The paint additive yota is suggesting is oil based, so I'd assume it would work in a similar manner.  Lasts much longer.

 

Spot test anything you try before you go all out.

So are you saying this paint related product is better than any auto back to black plastic restorer out there Yotaman?

That stuff is a solvent and is melting the surface of the plastic just like a heat gun does.

It is. Known thing in the jeep and ATV world. Been on my 1984 Honda 3 wheeler and my GMC for months ! No meltage yet ! ?
