Adding factory brake controller to 1500

Hey there my father just picked up a new 2019 Silverado 1500 but somehow got one that doesn’t include the factory brake controller. It has a receiver hitch and trailer plugs. Is there anyway to buy the oem pieces and install it now or should he just get a tekonsha? Thanks

You can't add the OEM one, may as well buy whichever aftermarket one you like.

No can do sir.  If its not factory installed, gotta go aftermarket controller.

Has someone actually tried this install on a 2019 and failed or are the reports of it not being possible from attempts on earlier trucks? The wiring harness and controller are available from GM.

Yea I am wondering the same?  There is even a harness behind the push in black plate where the stock controller goes.

I gave up waiting and installed an aftermarket controller with the add on harness that came with the truck. Works great.

How did you get that plug out? Do ypu have a video of removing it?

I'm curious to know... why can't you add an OEM TBC?

GM chooses to not permit upgrading the software in the truck so it is enabled.
