Has anyone experienced this before? I can’t figure out where it’s coming from. It only does it at startup. Never makes the noise while running or anything only when the motor is rolling over. Most definitely is coming from the front of the engine.

That’s what I was thinking. I mean it’s only on startup so my theory was the sudden turn of the engine from a dead stop might be making the belt slip and once it starts up and runs there isn’t a sudden force to it. Could a pulley or tensioner do that too?

Did you ever figure out what this is? I have a 15 silverado and it’s doing the same thing. A chirp on startup cold or hot and only at start up.

Can you take a video of the noise and post it. I have run into many water pumps causing these noises on startup and then going away when it gets hot.

It only happens during crack once engine is cranked over it’s not there. Not when engine is running only during cranking over. Doubtful it’s the water pump.

This sounds like a starter bearing squeal.

Have this sharp chirp on my 2017 from new. Brought it to the dealer and mechanic says it sounds fine and normal....Gee thanks... I feel strongly it is the starter gear engaging with a bit of misalignment.

We used to shim starters if needed back in the day and this sounds the same. Still does it and I am not to concerned. 25 k on it and I plan to keep it many years so we will see..
