2017 Rear Sliding Window Recall

I recently received a recall notice about the sliding rear window and an issue with fire.  The recall said that the dealer would remove the fuse associated with the function until GM provides a fix.  I questioned the dealer about it and they haven't heard of a fix but have said they replaced one window complete.  I am bringing my truck in for service soon and it has two recalls on the books for it.  The other is a software programming for brakes I think.

Appreciate any thoughts or experience on the window issue.  I've had the Sat antenna replaced so far under warranty but the truck has been issue free other than that.

I apologize if this post is in the wrong location.

Here is a couple threads on this. I don’t see how replacing the rear window with a new one would change anything since nothing has changed with the rear window? If that’s what you where getting at.

It's a Canadian truck only recall and there is no resolution other than pulling out the fuse.  Mine has never blown apart but the metal contacts on the center glass for the defrost circuit overheated, melted the plastic cover and one contact fell off.

I wouldn't hold your breath on getting a new window lol... much like the heated washer fluid recall I could see maybe a small option price voucher and that's about it.

Replacing the window won't fix it until its redesigned... the dealer was likely just letting him know they have had one shatter and replaced the window in the past.  Local dealer will not replace them prior to the recall under warranty... A fellow I work with had the best offer of not paying for the labour to install a new slider after his blew up in his 2014 Denali a couple years ago.  It would have still been $1000 out of pocket for him so he just went and had a normal flat rear window installed at a glass shop for $400.

So it is the defroster in the slide that is the issue and fire associated with it.  GM should at least provide a timeline for a fix.  I hear you on holding my breath.

Thanks. to both of you for your reply.

Which was insanity.  My previous truck (Escalade EXT) had the stupid recall done on it for the fluid pump when I bought.  I bought an aftermarket plug-and-play solution for about $90 that resolved the pump issue.  Few minutes to put it in and my truck had heater fluid once again.

Its cheap ass GM... they aren't going to redesign the rear slider and replace the entire window on their dime.  Another option I could see is them offering a solid rear glass at no charge lol.

I have zero intention of ever taking my truck in for the recall unless it is truly a new sliding rear window design.  Otherwise forget it.

I doubt very much they'll give me money back.  And although I could do without the slider, I bought the truck with it.  If I sell it, I'll put an ejection sticker over the rear window button and call it sold?  Perhaps another class action is required to light a fire against GM.
