Cold Air Intake Noise

I just picked up a 18’ z71 that has a K&N CAI installed by the previous owner. I notice a mild “growl” from around 1.5k-2.5k rpm. Excuse my newbness, but is this from the CAI? I didn’t notice this noise on my previous bone stock 16’ LT.

I’m assuming it has to be, since everything else on the truck is stock to the best of my knowledge. Honestly it sounds pretty cool..

The CAI is exactly what causes it. Many of us install them for increased HP and better MPG. I don’t know how many will admit it , but I also do it for the growl.

I love it, just enough sound to hear that v8 rev up. If I knew how cool it sounded I would have put one on my 16’.

How much HP gain and fuel efficiency is there? Anything significant or is it negligible?

Also, being that I don’t have any experience with CAI’s.. is there anything maintenance wise I should be doing regularly?

Minimal gains, especially in MPG cause most of us stomp it a little harder than we should to hear growl. Research K/N filter cleaning on internet or YouTube. You can buy a cleaning kit off Amazon. It’s vital you take care of things, especially the filter keeping it clean, properly oiled and secured. This is the only thing preventing massive amounts of debris entering your throttle and ultimately your engine.

K & N open box not optimal setup. Something having to do with hot engine air being sucked in.

Stock box better with modular intake tube.

Air filter choice debatable. Some say paper is best. I use the "high flow" none oil washable type. Which some say can let dirt particles pass through more easily. Pick your poison I suppose. Believe what you like. Don't take my advice. I have no scientific evidence to support anything I say. Mostly just use my own common sense with most things.

Growl is good. I would worry if it didn't make noise.
