Highway Bounce

Recommended Posts

I have a GMT800 Crew cab 4WD.  It has Bilstein 4600's with about 120K on them.  Driving on concrete highway can make that thing bounce like a mofo.  Especially on I25 south of Denver and North of Castle Rock.

I've googled around and know this is a pretty common problem.  Any good solutions?  I was thinking about changing the shocks and the front jounce, but don't really want to do all that work and expense for nothing.

Are the Bilsteins just worn out.  Mostly highway, around town, occasional off road.

I drive that same stretch and bounce around like crazy on my 08 Duramax 2500 as well.  Only I have 195,000 miles on my ride and the same shocks so definitely overdue for new something.  Southbound I-25 from Lincoln to about... meadows is the worst of it.  Thing is.. It's only bad on these trucks.  Cars and SUVs don't really notice it.

Hi Ryan - Thanks for the reply.  I thought I would get more of a response than this.

Sorry you are having the same bouncing issue.  In this case misery doesn't love company.

I guess I'll change my shocks this spring.  See what happens.

When a shock is completely blown out the tires can and will bounce like a ball going down the highway, you will end up with flat spots on the tires as well. Replacement would be recommended.
