2004 Yukon Remote Start

I recently purchased a 2004 Yukon 1500 XL. It has quite a few factory options. The key fobs have 3 buttons; Lock, Unlock, and Horn. How do I find out of this vehicle has factory remote start on it? Can I buy a fob with the remote start button and will it work? I was considering putting on an aftermarket remote start, but figure I would ask about this first. Thanks.

Look into the glove box for the RPO codes. The two codes that I've found are AP3 and AP7, if one of those is there is may have come equipped with factory remote start. My guess is that is doesn't. It really wasn't standard on a lot of trucks until 2007+.

The GMT800 trucks like your 04 did not EVER come with factory command start so no need to look for something that didn't exist.  The oem remote starter on the trucks started with the 07+ GMT900 trucks.

Can anyone tell me how to calculate the proper resistor to use for bypassing the Passlock system in this truck? I think it is a Passlock 2, but am not sure. I was wondering if I can I cut the yellow and the black security wires near the ignition switch or under the column near the BCM and measure the resistance of the wires going into the switch with the key installed, then solder in a resistor of that value. I don't care about keeping the security system active on a vehicle this old.

My 07 classic had factory command start.

Don't cut any wires!

Use a module:

I ended up cutting the wires near the ignition switch and soldered in a 2200 ohm resistor. I guess any resistor between a certain range will work. I had a 2200 on hand, so that is what I used.

I then had to re-train the Passlock system to recognize this new resistor value, which took half an hour. My method permanently bypasses the Passlock security system. I don't care since this is a 15 year old truck. Someone will still need a key to start it, so it is still fairly secure. My remote start works fine, and there are no warning lights on either. Overall, it was a fairly simple fix.

Lots of VATS bypass discussions in Cadillac forums. I've done it on 2 Cadillacs.

Yes, measure resistance at the key pellet. Lookup the passlock resistor options and choose the resistor close to your measurement. Cut wires, solder in new resistor.
