You already have a catch can? Just disconnect the line from the can going into the intake and spray right into it while idling at 2,000 rpm's or so (you may need someone to keep the idle up for you, because it will try to stall). Do it on a hot engine and let the solution sit for an hour, then take it out for a nice run.

Check my facts???  There has been test after test after test done on numerous dirty valves with carbon cleaners. Tons of which can be found on YouTube. While there is evidence of cleaning going on none of them have shown the results posted above. I have no problem stating I believe that’s a little false advertising on the manufacturers part. 
 

the key to these cleaners is making them apart of your routine maintenance intervals. This is simple common sense. You change your oil regularly because one of its functions is keeping the engine clean. Imagine not changing your oil for 100k miles. You think a fresh oil change is magically gonna clean that engine.

This "test" performed by the OP is analogous to eating greasy fast food for 40 years, then eating a salad and having to have a quadruple bypass.

Guys, the OP took his time to present something. If someone doesn't like it, leave it alone. No reason to put down his demonstration! I don't think he was trying to demonstrate someone doing routine valve cleanings since day 1. His demonstration shows buildup that has not been preventively maintained. His demo is showing that valve cleaners won't do the job when the stuff has already built up after thousands of miles of drive time. If you already knew the results, good for you! I'm sure someone found it useful since some people might assume that the cleaner will work on stuff that's been caked on forever.

Thank you for posting, appreciate the time and effort you put into this and later posting it. I’ve heard somewhat the same thing you‘ve posted just not as informative, it’s one thing reading about it, it’s another proving by posting real world results.

Which is why even using a catch can won’t stop the inevitable from happening. Personally, if this happened to me (not your heart attack) I’d just replace the valves every time the carbon caked up

The catch can does actually catch oil vapors from the PCV line, so in that regard it prolongs the life of your valvetrain. It definitely reduces exposure.

Combine that with routine CRC when you change your oil, and you're doing all you can to combat carbon buildup.

It doesn't 100% solve it but it makes it take a lot longer.

I have the catch can + the Range AFM disabler. I'd like to do the routine CRC on my oil changes but I'm still afraid to mess something up. I'd love a good video that shows the procedure on the newer 5.3's (2014-2018, 2019 LD). I checked YouTube and can't find anything good. I only have 2000 miles on the truck so I have some time before my first oil change but I'd like to be ready. I want to do it beginning at the first oil change. If anyone has some link to a good guidance video, that would be great!

When i had my LS 6.0 engine tore down to a short block i cleaned the top of pistons to remove the carbon. I tried many things WD, Seafoam and more. The best stuff i used was Berryman B12. Let it sit for 10 minutes and the carbon just wiped off with ease. I wish they made a spray for the valves.

For a GDI, I still say the best approach is regular spraying of cleaner coupled with a catch can.

And hey, if you have a catch can, you can just pop the hose off the exit of the can and spray there. Easy.

Here is a simple step-by-step guide...

 

Step 1: Retrieve Wallet;

Step 2: Take out a $10;

Step 3: Place Directly into a Trash Can; and 

Step 4: Feel Good About It

Hahaha...I couldn't resist...I have no strong feeling either way as to if these valve cleaners actually work or not, I personally don't use them but that's just me...
