Tire sensors:

I have a 2013 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT and just put new tires on it. I didn’t have the tire sensors installed and now the dash light stays on. Anyway to disable that so the light goes off?

No way to disable the light that I know of.

They are required by federal law, so there is no easy way to bypass the error message.  You could just put the 4 wheels and tires in the bed of the truck.  They will connect back up automatically.

They're not required by federal law in the states. They're required to be installed by the manufacturer, but after that, there's zero enforcement. If I can get an inspection sticker in communist Massachusetts with the light on, anyone can.

To the OP - bring your vehicle back to the shop that installed your tires, and make them fix the sensor they broke.

EDIT - just saw the OP is Canadian - my bad.

See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transportation_Recall_Enhancement,_Accountability_and_Documentation_Act for the information.  I never said any consumer would be charged with doing anything to disable the system.  All federal safety laws generally only apply to the manufacturer, not the end user.  In both the USA and Canada this "law" has made it difficult for the end user to get around it.

The ridiculous part of the history of this system is that it was around when the Ford SUVs were having issues with the Firestone tires, it would not have prevented anything.  Those Ford vehicle owners were simply following the Ford recommended tire inflation pressures.  A full size SUV running 26psi in Florida in the summer was an invitation for disaster.  Being an ex-Firestone employee it just pisses me off that Firestone was forced to accept blame for this.  Tire manufacturers cannot survive without auto manufacturer purchases.

OP is not Canadian, lanf is though.

Well I need to go back to bed then ...  One big giant fail in reading comprehension for me today!? Guess I didn't scroll all the way up - thought I did!

Clinton signed it - that figures. The party that claims to want to hold your hand through life, while picking your pocket with the other.

Useless system - definitely wouldn't have helped in the Firestone case. This was big on the news in Phoenix, AZ where I was living at the time - there were at least 7 vehicles a day crashing because of this, since temps that summer were north of 110°F for a long time. I agree - there probably wasn't a thing wrong with the tires, just the manufacturer's recommended pressure.

These are the things that happen when people want their hand held by government, and it grows, and grows, and grows ... ?Main reason GM got bailed out, instead of being left for dead as it SHOULD have been. Makes my blood boil!! We're going from, "The Land of the Free", to the land of the dependent ...? We're going from "Land of the Free", to the land of the dependent ...

The tire shop didnt do anything wrong. The OP stated " I didn’t have the tire sensors installed" this means the OP told them not to reinstall them after the valve was removed.

I did happen to recall a fix for the TPMS light though  ...

Electrical tape (over the light). ?

Google "TPMS Emulator"

Don't know if it will work or not without the sensors, you would probably have to contact the manufacturer to find out before purchasing

I went to Google TPMS Emulator and found something that worked!! I have a 2013 model that has the electronic push buttons on the dash. Turned the switch to on, not starting engine, went to tire pressure and held down the change button. SOB went off!

It will return.  When I had my 08 G5 GT I put 4 snows on black steel wheels in the winter.  Put the 4 17 inch wheels in the garage near the door.  If I warmed the car up for 5 minutes it would see the tires in the garage and not set the light.  If I went out for the day doing running around stuff the light would eventually come back on.  I think you will find your light will come back on soon.  Why did you remove the sensors?  You wrote that you bought new tires, but did not mention new wheels as well.  Unless they physically unbolted the sensors and removed them after they removed the old tires, they should still be in the rims.  If they happened to do what I used to do while working at  Firestone store decades ago, without telling you, then they should be buying you new sensors.  I used a simple tool that grabbed the valve stem that pulled the complete stem out of the wheel to deflate just about instantly.  Didn't really care if they sold new stems on the sale or not, everyone I did got new stems.
