I have a 2019 Sierra 1500 and have a "Tailgate Handle in Chrome for MultiPro™ Tailgate" that I wanted to replace instead of the factory one. I received it for free from GM after they gave me credit to buy accessories. It came with no instructions and I could not find any on the internet. I tried to remove the original cover with the plastic tool but it seemed to be connected inside and did not fully pop out(only go it halfway). I stopped in fear I was going to damage it and popped it back in. Anyone know where I can find instructions? GM dealer was no help.640X640

You have to drop the inner tailgate (the small part) and remove the black plastic squares to remove the handle. It’s bolted from the inside. I did mine myself. Took maybe 10 minutes to remove and install the handle.

Do the two tailgate buttons, camera and light have to be detached from the old handle and attached to the new one? Or does the handle frame just slide over those parts?

Two 10mm bolts than pull the top out first, yes the cameras have to be removed, if I remember they have torx screws.

Thank you for the info!

To follow up, I did order the new handle cover with the chrome piece (I couldn’t find the original all black cover by itself), and installed it myself. I’ve included some pics if anyone is interested.

Did you have to drill holes in the piece you mount the handle to? Mine does not fit because of the screws that hold the chrome piece in.

No. I popped the panel closest to the tailgate handle on the inside of the inner gate, to remove a bolt. Also had to unscrew the light and the camera from the old cover. New cover fit in perfectly.

Do you have a part number for the chrome handle?

You can find gloss black and chrome stick on covers that cover the whole unit on ebay. Been considering a gloss black one for my Trail Boss.
