Just what it says, it calibrates the electronic power steering to compensate for the higher ride height.  It is not tire-specific.  They also perform a calibration on the forward-facing camera.

For everyone who got a lift which did not include a calibration, how do you find the steering to be affected?

Why would you not get the calibrations?  They are included in the cost of the kit.

Yes, that was the dealer install option on the GMC Accessories website. I’m going to call a couple shops to see if they can do better. Thanks for the reply!

I used a bilstein 2.5 strut in the front and a 0-4 inch rough country and 2" block in the back and got a sold 2.25 inches all around.It is a noticeable difference in ride quality especially on the bigger bumps. I was looking at the southern cal coil over setups which are nice but they are not made for northern climate and just won't hold up to road salt & mud. Not only that but they require regular service which in Canada costs more than the 1 time cost on the bilsteins. To all those going higher than 2 -21/2" good luck as every mechanic I have talked to says the long term costs will get you ie ball joints & cv angles and drive shaft angles (unless you start putting in drop brackets). All in I was just over a grand Canadian and say it was a great buy. The other thing to watch for on a taller lift is the fuel lines on the 3.0 duramax as it's not good for them. Just my .02$

I've never had an independent front 4x4, so I never gave a lot of thought to the way steering is affected through travel  at a range out side design. 

I haven't seen a lot of requirement for recalibration on the higher lifts. I would think this is because the control arms in higher lift kits correct the angle.  Is it angle or added torque from the longer "lever arm" that it corrects for? 

If its angle, then how does the electric steering do under more extreme articulation? 

What does the calibration correct? Just the baseline angle sensors so the comp doesn't read turning input that doesn't exist?

Why not use a dropped pittman and reinforced or braced box?

Just had the 2" factory lift installed on my 20 Sierra Elevation, part number 84993582. Got the kit for $980 on sale from GM Partsexperts and got it installed for $513 + tax ($408 for the install and $105 for the wheel alignment) at my local GM dealer. For some reason they were cheap compared to other dealers I called who were quoting between $800 and $750. They did all the calibration and computer updates. The only thing I wish they included was the headlight adjustment but that's easy enough to do myself.

 

I love it, looks just like an AT4 from the outside, high enough to look more aggressive but not outrageous. Ride is comfortable, a little stiffer but may just need to settle.  Factory warranty is still intact and I kept the old parts JUST in case I want it back to factory.

Those with a stock AT4. What are y’all’s stock wheel well height stock, and/or what are your  wheel well heights with your leveling kit? Front and rears, please. 

I forgot to measure before installing Icon leveling kit.

 

I have an AT4.  I installed Icon leveling kit, UCA’s and rear Icon shocks.

After 1000 mile break-in, 4 Wheel Parts did final adjustment, after “settling”.

 

My rear height is 40”, and my front height is 41” (left) and 40 3/4 (right).

It seems my front right tire is already getting excess wear on outer edge of tire.

Also, truck is NOT happy driving in AWD upon acceleration since the lift.

Sounds like you may need an alignment.  Also, the owners manual tells you the AWB setting shouldn't be used full time.  It's meant for when the road condition could be slippery are loose.

I think he is referring to those who got an aftermarket lift where no steering "calibration" is offered.

I just had an alignment (my 2nd) after the 1000 mile break-in service of the Icon suspension leveling kit install. I noticed wear on the tire after the 2nd alignment….and only 200 miles of driving.

i think they raised the front 4”+.  I think it creates bad angles and even a perfect alignment won’t fix that.

Going back to 4 wheel parts to lower the front an inch, which will make my truck level.

 

And thank you for the info on the AWD mode. I did not see that.  Thank you much!!!!!!

Your welcome.  Not using it full time will increase mpg and decrease wear on drivetrain.

    • Have considered installing a DC to DC charger in your camper to replace your isolator?  
    • Common failure.  You need to replace the fuel door housing.   The painted cover transfers over to the new housing.  To remove the old one there is 4 spots where you poke the plastic to release it.  
    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.      
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?
