If you have a trade in - I have had great luck getting a trade in quote from multiple dealerships, taking the highest quote, and getting other dealerships to match or beat it.

Another thing that I am not the greatest at, but have heard stories - Negotiating the financing. Be prepped with rates that you have been approved for and understand that you can negotiate their rates or straight up dont have to take their rates.

Of course, you need to negotiate the trade in completely separately from the new vehicle, as otherwise the salesman just jacks up the price of the vehicle.  You may get a really large amount for your trade in, but you still wind up paying more than at some other dealer...

And negotiating the finance rate only works at a dealer where they've jacked the rate up from what gm finance is actually offering you.

I think you can get even farther past that % off MSRP. I think my advice for a first time buyer would be three-fold.

1) do your homework. Figure out what you want, and what others are paying for it. Don't let the dealership up-sell you on features or packages you don't need. Use resources such as this site and others to find out the "true" price you should pay.

2) Talk with multiple dealerships, be willing to talk to ones a little farther away too. If you get a great price from one 100 miles away, the one down the road might be willing to match it to make a sale.

3) The 0% financing is juicy bait, imo. If I were buying, I would take the full rebate since interest rates are already really low.

3.5) There will be a lot of numbers thrown around, the dealership won't have as much wiggle room since there's no trade in, so they will probably play hard ball at first on the sale price. Don't be afraid to walk out. Remember, they need the sale more.

Good luck!

exactly man.....I have been "got" by dealers more than a few times, but learned how to go about it..

research, research, research.....cannot emphasize this enough

line up several dealers and do not be afraid to walk away.....seriously this is probably your best negotiating tool

try to do all your negotiating online thru email, text.....if they wont go onto the next

also someone mentioned May being better than April for incentives ( thru an insider but take that FWIW)…..

don't be in a hurry...…..pretty soon youll catch onto game and take their words with grain of salt....

on 1500s 12-14k off msrp is what a lot of peeps are getting.....I got similar last august so its doable.....

take the rebates and discounts bro....if you have halfway decent credit the 0% will never catch the discounts.....

good luck and research!

Remember, it's your hard earned money you're spending so don't give the Dealer any more than you have to.

Ditto.  Sometimes you may not find any dealers near you that are willing to play game with that much $$$, you might have to look out of state.  The dealers here in Colorado are like that almost always you won't see those steep of prices off MSRP here and no matter how hard you try, they just say no, we can sell for more than what you are wanting us to take off.  And they dismiss you and move onto the next willing customer.

Somebody will play ball....sales are tough

Though I know Colorado is tough, my brother just bought one from there

I am in my 3rd month of research and negotiations, turned down bunch of offers though 1 I probably should have taken....California is tough as well, or can be......if I didn't have trade out of state would have been much easier....

Looking at 2500s so tougher model and tough state......Midwest seems to be best deals and South as well.....

I would just wait til November but seeing how they probably aren't gonna turn out many more 2020 models this year the picking will be slim....and fall of 2021 is ways out
