I want smaller wheels

Love my new truck, but it came with the option 22" chrome wheels, and while they look killer, I just feel like its contributing to the rougher ride than i'd like. Would I gain any benefit from stepping down to a 20", or would I need to go with an 18" to really notice the difference of the added sidewall? Theres a guy local that has brand new 18" takeoffs from his new silverado, they look decent in my opinion. Would like to keep the 275 or even a 295 contact patch tho, the 20" option i want is the GMC honeycomb from factory reproductions. Thanks for any input

More sidewall will always give a more compliant ride, if you want the plushest ride go for 18s. Both my trucks have had 20s and I never had an issue so I cant really compare.

I had to take my new truck in 2 weeks ago because the rear window was leaking, and they gave me a 2020 with 20's on it and it road a little bit better than my 22's. 18's would be even better! Now I have noticed the past 2 weeks it getting better, I have 3k miles on it now and I think the rear springs are finally settling in. I myself love the looks of bigger rims. I could never go back to 18's because they would look to small, but I have had 22's on my last 3 vehicles.

All have their opinion. I personally just bought a 2020 LT with 17" wheels. I don't like the hoopie with rubber band tire look and the larger sidewalls on my tires can absorb some of the impact before it gets transferred to the wheels. As an added bonus the 17" wheels are usually the lightest you can get from the factory.

 

Another pet peeve I have the the design of some wheels. A wheel with 6 lugs should have a spoke count that is multiple of 6. 5 and 10 spoke 6 lug wheels are out of whack for me.

My 2020 came with 18" wheels and I'm looking for 20" or 22" to trade with.

for sure these trucks do break in.....my RST was stiff at first but softened up, 18'' will definetly be softer ride and I as well don't like huge dish rims on rubberband tires...since I have always been more of an offroad guy vs street guy, I will always take more sidewall....

 

but yeah 18 vs 22 should be very noticeable

My LT came with 18"s which are now my winter set, I have recently upgraded to 20"s (not snow flake) on previous trucks I always had 20"s too and have never typically noticed any major difference in ride quality.

I’m actually going with a new 22” ‘TiS set up so if anyone is interested in my 20” stock. Only have about 2,500 miles on them. Also had them powder coated gloss black and they look incredible. Powder coating alone was $800 bucks. But looking to let go quick so open to negotiations. Love them, but wife gave green light on new set up and well you know the saying “happy wife, I get to buy sh!! For my truck” lol

How many miles would you say it took? I also can't find this annoying rattle coming from the backseat

@RST-stan.....I had a rattle too, Try taking out both head rests in the back. Pull the metal bars apart and then swap them to the other side. So left headrest goes into right, and vice versa. This solved my rattling issue.  It's a known problem with these new trucks.  dealership looked over all forums for a fix.

It had 10k when I got rid of it, so maybe around 4k miles.....little more or less possibly

If you like the look of your 22s you can also just get a 22 inch tire with a larger outer diameter. You'd have to get your speedometer and odometer corrected but that should just be as simple as plugging into the OBDII port and entering new values. You can also try playing around with tire pressures a bit.

    • It is working as designed.  NHT and non NHT trucks have the same exact transmission cooling setup.  NHT just gets a larger radiator.     The transmission cooler loop on these is as follows.     -Transmission out goes into an oil to water heat exchanger (item #1 in the first illustration below).  This exchanger has engine coolant opposite the transmission fluid and uses engine coolant to warm and then regulate the transmission fluid temperature when its in the operating window.   - From the cooler it goes to a thermal bypass valve (item #11 in the 2nd illustration below).  If the ATF has not reached the temp to open the bypass (194F), it loops back.   - When it reaches 194F, the thermostat opens and ATF then flows out to the oil to air auxiliary cooler (item #17 in the 2nd illustration) at the front of the truck.  From there it goes back to the transmission.     Your only fix would be to swap for the PPE thermal bypass delete block which will open the loop to the aux cooler all the time.  It will STILL run warm, probably 170-200F, but that's as low as you'll get it as its still flowing through the oil to water exchanger.      
    • Most say the oil temperature needs to above the boiling point of water to rid it of moisture and long enough to dry it. Many think that is about a hour at 212 F or more. Those people have never line dried cloths in a Midwest winter. Leave a pan of water sitting on the counter and eventually it all evaporates. So heat drives the time it takes. Water in oil under 175 F, the Nitration initiation temperature, is a minimum then for temperature and samples I've done that use Karl Fisher method say about a hour (in a healthy well tuned motor) over 175 F will dry it to under 800 ppm. Low enough to not be much of a factor. Motors with weak rings will take longer and the colder the air temperature the longer it takes.   On a cold motor there is also the condensation temperature. Blowby gases that contain moisture are subject to that cold cylinder wall, like sweat on a glass of ice tea. But also subject to the Law of Partial Pressures. Wear studies by GM and the DOD  indicate wear is a real issue below 85 F and a concern to 140 F but doesn't become a minimal factor until about 160 F. You know this intuitively when you see water vapor exit the exhaust pipe until the system gets above the dew point. It isn't magic, it's physics and it fascinates me. I know you didn't ask but....I over share sometimes. 😉    You keep the Camaro's high and tight.  
    • Move further away.   Benefit of living out - none of our cars get short cycled, plenty of warm up time.   Curious how much time/temperature it takes to drive moisture/condensation out of the engine?
    • Switch a a 100% synthetic trans fluid, Amsoil works for me.
    • First of all sorry, I know there are a ton of transmission temperature threads...   My truck is a 2025 LZ0 High (10l89 10-speed) High Country with NHT max trailering package. The NHT package is supposed to have "enhanced cooling."   Normally the trans temp sits around 200. It seems like with any real stress it quickly jumps into the 220s (for example climbing a grade unloaded at lower speeds). I haven't towed much with this truck, but I'm concerned if it gets this hot unloaded.    I've tried a few different things to keep the temps down (tow/haul mode, sport mode, low range when that makes sense) and nothing seems to affect it.    I'm curious if others are the same behavior or if anyone has found techniques to keep the temps down. It seems like it just can't handle reduced airflow at lower speeds, even with relatively light loading.    Thanks!
