Help 2018 Chevy Silverado Texas Edition

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hi Guys, I need some advise. I test drove an awesome looking 2018 Chevy Silverado Texas Edition from a local mom and pop shop with only 2,500 miles on it. It has signs it was in an accident, part of the top of the dash is put back together where air bag deployed, rear view mirror broken (with some hair on it), it’s got some warning messages popping up safety restraint, steering assist reduced, etc. It runs really good and sounds good, I checked the car fax and no accidents reported so I’m guessing the accident wasn’t reported and it was fixed away from the insurance. What would y’all recommend?

There are plenty of used trucks for sale that haven't been in accidents.  Why buy one that has?

No doubt.

I'm sure the mileage on it is why you are so interested.

This truck is probably a time bomb though. Keep looking.

I bought one salvage titled vehicle. It ended up being one of the best vehicles I’ve owned. The only way to do it is if the price is right.

So I’ve bought from them before a 2009 f150 and never had issues with it, but we needed something bigger and we got a white 2014 GMC Sierra that has the middle seat in the front and fits everyone comfortably but it has 204,000 miles on it within the second day of having it it turned off at Auto Zone and wouldn’t turn on, had to wait awhile before trying it again and it turned on. I guess the reason why I’m interested in the truck is I used my ford as a trade in and mostly all the trucks on the lot are older besides the 2014 I just bought and now this one the 2018 Chevy Silverado. I’m just nerve wrecked because the truck is nice and the price is right but.... I’m trying to look at it in the long run.

The price is definitely low. Only 1000 more then the 2014 I just got with 204,000 miles on it. I’m really interested but I’m sure the dealer wouldn’t fix anything on it under warranty I’m sure that’s voided.

Is it a LT or a LTZ?

Did the Texas edition come with a LTZ grille like shown?

I ran the car fax no accidents reported. It says it’s an LT. should it not have that grill? I have always been I to fords. So this is my first time dealing with Chevys so I’m not sure.

Must have had front end damage.
They replaced the grille with an LTZ grille.
You said the dash is screwed up from airbag deployment. It was in an accident and the repairs never showed up on Carfax. No real surprise there. It happens.

Also from the picture it looks like the grille isn't in line with the rest of the truck.
Follow the top of the chrome it should all line up. That one don't.
Unless it's just showing that in the pic, optical illusion

That’s actually a high country grill, grill probably got damaged and they swapped it out. Mine is a rebuild title been good since the afm delete [lifter swap LS7 and cam swap]

No factory warranty with only 2500 miles kind of defeats the whole purpose of having something fairly new.

Will they let you take it anywhere to have the frame checked, and pull codes to see all that is wrong?

Your initial deal might cost you more in the long run.

    • Thanks for all the help so far!   I did try right from 2026 right down to 2021, and only from 2023 down lets me select the option for tire psi change, but I get the vehicle not supported error!   I'll definitely try it under Chevrolet after work today, and I'll get the sensor number from gm for my truck tire sensors. And I'll let you know if it works for me under Chevrolet!   And if that doesn't work, I'm going to guess that what @Atlas said about maybe I have a different body control module could be true!
    • From where I'm sitting this sounds like a compatibility problem. I'm assuming the 2007 was a 900-series truck, and not an 800-series (they were sold side-by-side in dealerships that model year), since it starts and runs.   This is why I HATE post-2006 vehicles. Everything becomes a huge problem when you try to keep the thing running for longer than the manufacturer has designed it to.    I can't remember when Global-A architecture started - either '10 or '11. For your sake, you had better hope it's '11, or you're going to be spending some BIG money to correct this cluster-eff. That's something you need to find out before doing anything else. You may have several computers bricked ... but the fact that it runs tells me you MIGHT be ok here.     EDIT: Just did a quick refresher. You're screwed. This is Global-A. The 2 systems are NOT compatible in the slightest. Once you get the correct engine in there that IS compatible, you're going to need to see how many computers are locked. Absolute NIGHTMARE to straighten out, too. Your buddy might be better off cutting his losses and finding something else.   Welcome to post-2006 vehicle electronics. This is why I quit the industry, and drive nothing built after 1994. This stuff takes all the fun out of wrenching!

    • True, hard to say what differences there may or may not be between Chev and GM as well as a production year or mid year part change either.    I just found it odd that under the Sierra choice on the Autel that many of the last few years of production year did not include the choice of changing the tire pressure but if that is an Autel thing or a GM thing as to why the choices were not there. Knowing what tpms sensors are on the truck should give some guidance into which choices on the tool even make sense to try as I wouldn't give up just yet with the tool but I guess he will see what if anything he comes up with if he finds out a bit more info and tries a few more things on the Autel.
    • I'm sure if you went to a junkyard where you go in and pull the part off the truck yourself, not a used part place where they do it for you, you can get that part on it's own.  Depending on if and what else you would be buying, and time of day, they might even just skip over adding it as a item to the bill.
