So I finally got my truck back from the dealer. They replaced the differential, the carrier bearings and found that the pinion bearings were bad as well. They replaced the inner and outer pinion bearings and seal. So far so good and it's not making the grinding noise anymore.

I suspect oxidation on rotors because it goes away after braking.  I have 20,000 miles and hear this noise every morning.  I’m really surprised GM hasn’t responded.  Like most of you, I’d rather go to dentist than the dealer.

I’ve got a 2022 and that noise is driving me crazy. It’s getting worse it seems and I believe it is the parking brake. On an incline it sets itself. Idk if it adjusts itself. The mileage is horrible and you can feel it and hear it. Frustrating when you finally buy a 50 some thousand dollar truck ….& you hate it because of this bullshit!

My 2019 would drive me crazy with that noise. I don't have that problem anymore. My 2023 Sierra doesn't do it.

Guys I figured it out!!!! Here’s what to do. I’ll explain what I found and how to fix it in the next paragraph.
 

when you change your rear brakes and screw in the 14mmscrews make sure you use the 17mm bolt to keep it backed off the caliper. If your tighten the 14mm bolt without holding the 17mm It’ll force the bolt it mounts on the caliper to become a little off. When you tighten the 14mm bolt make sure you use the 17mm bolt to tighten the screw back towards each other.
 

My rear end was making a weird noise that sounded like a low rubbing noise when I would only make LEFT TURNS at 10-14mph. I just finished changing all my brake pads on my 2020 trailboss. Didn’t have the noise before at 55k miles.

I have a 2019 sierra  sle  air lift suspension  5.3 8 spd trans dbl cab with 105thousand kms my truck makes this same noise on uneven  terrain normaly when cold in drive or reverse at slow crawl  driving me insane... have brand new rotors and pads so im thinking wheelbearings or shaft or somthing... 72 grand this truck should not be like this...

For anyone following:

 

I know there’s been a few different solutions, but I wanted to share what I did to fix this issue. It’s been a week now, and the noise (exact same as shown in this thread) has not come back.

 

I ended up finding that my rear drivers side brake caliper appeared to be “sticking” when it was wet and cool, then once it heated up, it would finally release. I was ended up replacing the entire brake caliper, and problem solved! 
 

However, I will add this side note: you need to make sure that the little cutouts on the piston line up at the 6 and 12 position in relation to the caliper. I found out that my old caliper was just fine, but those notches in the piston got out of alignment, and they were pushing my brake pad up/down and creating excess pressure on one end of the pad where it touches the caliper. This wasn’t allowing the brake pad to actually spring back away from the disk.

 

My recommendation, or rather what fixed it for me, is to take your caliper and pads off, check orientation of the caliper piston, and reassemble. If that doesn’t help, might be time to replace the caliper! When I checked all 4 of my tires, none of them made the noise, but as soon as I got to my drivers side rear, it was hard to spin and made that rubbing/scrubbing noise.

Has anyone officially figured out the issue? Mine does the same thing, but i have also noticed it while driving off road on uneven terrain, also during the cold start/drive first thing in the morning. Any then yesterday I went to back into a parking spot and it did it again on flat ground just reversing after about 20 minutes of driving.

Its not the parking brake or brakes at all...its the extrenal tone ring behind the axle flange rubbing on the axle tube....its a dumb design with minimal clearance and no dust seal...just fixed a 2021 with same issue still made noise with caliper and pads removed...primarily when cold

I removed the caliper, compressed it, inspected the pads, they are virtually brand new, less than 1,000 miles.  I put it all back together and no noise.  I drove it around with minimum stopping.  Parked it for a day and a night, no noise.  Then I engaged the parking brake on a hunch.  Disengaged it, drove it around the driveway a little and then wham, there was the noise!

With the new emergency brakes/parking brakes, they use an attached motor of some sort to engage the caliper of the actual brake shows, not a separate set of brake shoes or calipers.

 

I suspect that the motor or something needs to be adjusted some how to back-off maybe a small amount, but not sure. 

 

If you listen to the truck when you first unlock the doors you can hear what I think are the motors disengaging or at least spinning.

 

This is pretty annoying!

I had, had a trip planned to the dealership, but the nasty little bug Covid struck some folks and had to cancel the appointment. 

 

Anyone here though know anything about this new parking brake setup and maybe how to adjust it?  Avoiding the dealership is always on my list of things to do, avoid at all costs if at all possible.

 

 

Not adjustable and the brakes aren't causing the rubbing sound.  It's the tone ring behind the axle flange rubbing slightly on the axle tube...i just fixed same issue at left rear wheel on 2021 silverado...it still made same noise when cold with caliper and pads removed and does not have an internal e brake etc

    • So speaking of oil consumption with my L8T as I just changed the oil yesterday and made the switch over to Amsoil SS 0W-40 from the Mobil 1  5W-30 Truck and SUV I just dropped out. 2900 miles on that oil as well as  68 hours on that oil ( so used to equipment with an hour meter and that becomes valuable information to compare with others as well ). Once again the oil use was so very little, I am going to say it dropped under 1/16 of an inch on the dipstick. No towing was done and this interval was from early spring until now.    One interesting item to note is that going by the 5 quart jugs I was using before from Mobil, it was showing that I was putting in 8 US quarts to bring it to full if not slightly over the full mark according to their jug markings. Granted I did allow more drain time this time and in part because the engine oil was only lukewarm as I started it and let it idle and not for long enough to get the oil itself hot ( the engine was up to operating temp ). The oil in that state just seemed to take forever for it to drip out but not only at the drain plug but at the oil filter housing as well, perhaps I had never quite gotten all the oil out before and I could have still waited longer but as it was I waited well over 3 hours. I think next time if I have the time I will do an experiment by dropping the oil and lets say leave the pan under it for 15 minutes, then switch to another pail and let it drip out overnight and measure how much more oil comes out. So this time and yes I ended up getting it just over the full mark as I was experimenting with trying to get the level to the add mark after I had run it and then waited some and then added a bit and waited for a certain amount of time for it to settle to the add mark. I very well may not have waited long enough for that experiment but I got to the add mark, then dumped in a full quart and waited some and checked and then waited some more and it crept up more ... and then finally oops, it was slightly over full some hours later when it really had settled all it would. I find this engine sure takes time for the last bit of oil that gets poured in to finally make its way into the crank case. I can only guess at how much too much I added as per maybe a 1/10th of a quart. I had poured in 8.5 quarts going by the quart containers as per 8 quarts and 16 us ounces. I was shocked at how much this was off compared to the prior oil changes and if those larger jugs and they are not marked accurately enough or they contain slightly more than what they say, or the drain time factor made that much of a difference. But I know on this forum there have been others who have said they have put well over 8 quarts in their L8T and now I have also going by the Amsoil true quart containers. Its a confusing convoluted mess up here in Canada with some oil manufactures packaging is in true US quarts, some is also in true US quarts containers on an even number of quarts but also marked in liters which becomes the odd ball volume of a fractional amount of liters. Then there is the Liters only containers, no US markings as its a true metric container and only measured in Liters to an even number of Liters. But remember we used to have Imperial Gallons and Imperial quarts as well !. 
    • Holy smokes. Clearly not a deal on that truck. I just mean in general, matte or painted trim is becoming more normative than chrome, but I know the Black Optics packages on various vehicles are being sold as uplevel trims. They look really good, but sheesh. It's just paint and plastic.

Physics, Chemistry, Medicine, Music, Art and so on.    The frequency of middle C (C4) is 261.63 Hz is a first principle. We build on that to make music we all can enjoy even if we all can not compose or play. You don't have to master it to make it enjoyable and useful.    So why is the Beginning so difficult? Why is agreement so elusive?   Everyone "Signs" the contract (when receiving that education in obtaining it)  but fewer and fewer in this world have any intention of living by that contract. They find exploiting that contract more advantageous. Disruption. With intent. Without intent. In Ignorance. In your face. With a double dog dare you. With a hold my beer. In resistance to that contract and in spite how it looks on us. It permeates the very air we breath.    In this way the contract is subject to advantage. Abide by it when it serves you, disregard it when it doesn't. Unpredictable and self-serving.     • I keep getting the above error message on my 25 Sierra.  If I reset the infotainment unit (via the phone hang up button) it will work again for a day or 2.   But I dont want to do have to reset  all the time. Works fine in my 2023 Corvette. On both vehicles I connect wirelessly.   I have a Google Pixel 10 Pro XL, phone is up to date.  Any Ideas.  See attached
