Has anybody tried to install the GMC MultiPro tailgate on a 1500 Silverado yet?  Briefly glancing at the curvatures of the tailgates for the Sierra and Silverado, it looks like it would be a direct bolt on.  Any takers?

I wonder if the upper latch would work correctly.

Where would you get all the special wire harness hookups needed for that beast? Power, remote release, in cab release.....

Don't need the in-cab function and I don't need the remote function.  All I need is the handle function and it will have power from the same source as my current tailgate.

I'm parked next to a 2020 Silverado at work today. We popped both and it looks like it would be a direct swap. 

 

With that said, I work with my truck, and the only time I've ever used the "MultiPro" part of my tailgate or the speaker system was to show people that asked about it and to help my GF get into the back. If I had the option today I definitely would have just have a regular (lighter) tailgate.

I use it to be able to have my dogs in their kennels when pulling my travel trailer and I can use it to get the tailgate fully down. Its pretty awesome..

Have a question about this. Even if you just power it up directly, I'm guessing you'd also lose the locking feature of it? It normally acts like the door locks. They won't open unless you have the fob in the vicinity. 

 

There's no other provision for a lock, so if that's important to you, I'm not sure how you'd get it to lock in place.

The harness may be different. If the multipro has its own cable for the inner gate you may still be able to use the lock and camera, otherwise it would be cutting the connectors off and making your own for camera and lock

I was just mentioning it as a question. Where is the remote receiver? In the tail gate or the truck? Reason I ask is that if the receiver is in the tailgate, you'd have to swap your receiver from the Chevy tailgate to the GMC one. Otherwise, your fob won't allow you to open the gate at the push of the tailgate button. But if that were the case, your remote and dash button should work on it also. I'm not familiar with the wiring and sensor locations for the gates.

 

If the release solenoid gets power from a separate source that needed to be wired in separately, then the locking feature would be lost as you couldn't remotely operate it and the fob would have no effect.

 

Maybe my truck is different? I don't know. I do know that I cannot walk up to the doors or tailgate and get them open without the fob in my pocket or nearby. So if the receiver from the fob is in the truck to activate the tailgate, you should be golden. If it's inside the tailgate, you may need to change that out.

 

I have no idea about Silverado tailgates and how they operate. I've never looked at them.

I definitely need the key fob on me, or within very close proximity, to open any door on my truck.  I would assume there is either a receiver in the tailgate or within very close proximity to it.  The signal receiver is an interesting point that I hadn't considered and the location of the said receiver would need to be verified.

The antenna for keyless entry of the tail gate is located behind the license plate in the rear bumper of the vehicle.  On models with keyless entry, there are five antenna, one on each door and one in the rear bumper (as shown below).  So the keyless locking and unlocking actuation of the tailgate should be retained regardless of the tailgate, assuming the connectors are the same.

Excellent info to know.  Especially will come in handy if you can find a Multi-pro in your color!  I would IMAGINE (no proof) that the upper center solenoid is simply piggybacked off the harness for the main gate solenoid so plugging up the power from the truck pigtail will be a one and done. Also, does the power lift on Silverado allow the multi-pro to work? Or is power lift an option? Like I said, I'm not very familiar with Silverado. 

 

The secondary gate on the multi has only the push button on the back of the tailgate only. No remote. I'm also guessing the main gate latch points are the same between Sierra and Silverado? If it fits, it ships!!!!

So my tailgate doesn't power up or down, but when I use the keyfob or the button on the center console, it opens and lowers on its own (Spring assist and friction impeded I'm sure).  However, the Rear Gate Module required for the power assist tail gate is less than $300 so thats not a real issue. 

 

What I'm trying to figure out now is if the assist motors are internal to the tailgate or external and if external, they would need to be purchased as well for an additional cost.  If everything is internal to the tail gate, I think it would be best to find one in a junkyard and purchase as a complete unit, mount it up, and roll on.

 

Really, I just need somebody to volunteer their time and finances to figure this out and get back to me, HA.

Since I already own my "Last Truck" as my wife puts it, Anyone know if the multi gate will fit my 2015 2500HD? I can figure out the electrical, just want to know if it will fit physically.
