Funny, I literally just sold mine to the dealer today, 19 fully loaded TB MSRP 60k that I paid 51k for in July 2019. Dealers best offer was $46.5k. I honestly couldn’t believe it but needless to say I jumped on it and it’s not mine anymore.

Same as you, my truck has been messed with too many times with as recently as this week they replaced the rear window and entire headliner, AGAIN. The build quality of this truck has been abysmal for me and it’s had way too many issues for me to keep long term.

You couldn't believe it? thats great you lost 4.5k what were you expecting thousand bucks loss?

Carvana was about $4k higher for me than any dealership but that being said, if a dealer offers you say $42k trade in its worth it just to avoid the taxes on the new truck if you sell it to Carvana.

Good to have options regardless.

So, does Carvana let you ride with the car down the elevator, kind of like you are in a Fast and Furious movie filming yourself???

If so, who would not buy there???

Depending on his interest rate and finance term, he either broke even or had a little equity. That's pretty good for only 1 year of ownership especially if he was able to rack up some miles on it. Similar situation to a lease.

They way I read it is he couldn't believe he only lost $4.5K. Thus why he jumped on the opportunity.

Trade in values are high right now, but so are new truck prices. Both due to inventory shortages. If I could find an AT4 Duramax for a good price, I'd let my 19 SLT go in a heartbeat. I could probably get close to what I paid for it a year and a half ago. Dealers are holding onto them things like gold though.

Exactly, I thought loosing 4.5k wasn’t too bad given I drove the truck for 1 year and 15k miles.

My truck is more of a weekend toy hauler and with two newborns don’t have much time for toys so I can wait out the craziness without having to get another one right away.

Btw - dealer who bought it listed it for 55k the same day, I figured they would ask 50/51 but had no idea they would be that greedy, wow. But maybes that’s just really what the market will pay right now!!

Na they mark it up and then make people feel good when they get $3-4k knocked off

True statement, start high and go lower if needed, next to impossible to start low and ask someone to pay more.

KBB and others give average trade-in valve but that does not mean the dealer is obligated to pay that.  There business model is to buy low and sell high.  I traded in a 2015 Sierra Denali with every option and a standard 6.5' box.  That truck sat for nearly a year before dealer sold (was askign high book) it so they take that into consideration when valuing a trade.

Quick update...

I ended up getting $45,500 trade in for my 2019 LT Trail Boss with 20,500 miles. Carvana offered me $46,000, but went with the trade in at Toyota to make the transaction seamless.

Dealer offered me 42k for my '19 TB with 31k on it. I paid 43.6 before tax.

Needless to say, I'm happy. Ended up with a 20 TB with the 6.2l and have no ragrets. Not even one.
