Lucas, great points! Trifecta claims they flash a tune without any PCM unlock. Do you know if they just Are they just adjusting pedal/throttle inputs? Or are they adjusting fuel and timing tables? The way it’s marketed it sounds more than just the former, and that would not be worth $500 to me.

Quote from Trifecta:
“- Its octane adaptive: Meaning this is not a '93 octane only tune'. This is a full fledged calibration for both he engine and transmission. You can use 87-93 octane as you see fit and the computer will self adjust power output. You will see best gains and MPG on 93 however.

- You can flash back to stock at any time using our software. The factory calibration is included with the file we provide you so you can quickly and easily switch from Custom to Factory for any dealer visits

- You have Driver Selectable Vehicle Modes: These are custom driving profiles we programmed into the calibration. You switch between them using the Cruise Control button. We include an ECO mode and a Performance mode you can switch back and forth to, on the fly. When CC is On you are in ECO mode. When CC is Off you are in the Performance mode

Meh. Sounds like marketing to me. I'd be much more concerned about their understanding of virtual torque, driver demand, injection timing, cam timing, etc.. That's really where the driveability gains come from. When you combine that with making simple changes to the TCC lockup schedule and ignition timing during part-throttle shifts = totally different truck.

You're blaming the messenger.

Sorry. The greedy ****s that claim gas guzzling combustion engines are contributing to climate change therefore see an opportunity to profit from it.

Yes but I believe the computer has to be sent to HP tuners to be unlocked so it ends up being north of $2500 to get the 2019s and newer tuned. GM is making it harder and harder for the computers to be unlocked.

This partially incorrect information.

HP Tuners for the 2017 and 2018 model year silverado/sierra's with the E92 computer only cost 4 credits to tune. That is $200 in credits. There is no send in the computer for the PCM unlock. You just have to be connected to the internet to hook up to the online server that unlocks the computer the first time.

If your truck has a 8 speed transmission that TCM costs another fee. That computer has to be sent to HP Tuners to be unlocked and then you need credits to tune it. It's about another $400-500 if you wish to tune a 8 speed transmission on 2017+.

All 6 speed transmissions have no additional cost and would only require the 2 credits or 4 credits depending on the year of the truck.

If you own a 2019+ new body style T1XX truck the minimum cost if $1,900 assuming you already owned HP Tuners. If not add in another $300 for it. There is no transmission support for the 8/10 speeds on those as far as I know, not sure on the 6 speeds either.

Okay so $2200 not $2500. Either way, out of my budget.

Thanks for of the info. Sounds like I need to wait until I can splurge on a blackbear or diablew. I’m in no rush, have a nice list of other things to do for now. Brake upgrade and airbags are already ordered and heading my way. I’ll probably do the transmission thermostat mod also. I’ll keep researching along the way as well.

Take battery cable off for a few min, fill truck with 89 octane, and drive it like you stole it for 3 full tanks. Then race a "tuned" truck and see what happens...
