Unplugged the door harness & see a tiny bit of green something at the bottom of the connector.  Could this be a little corrosion from getting wet?  Wonder if a little dielectric grease might be a viable solution to my problem?

BTW,  I did notice that the wires for my truck  are wrapped in a black cloth tape.

That is 99.95% the issue. I see it all the time. Make sure the black plastic clip is seated in the groove of the rubber boot.

I would try to clean off as much as you can. As I expected. That is corrosion and likely the culprit of your issues. When water gets in, a short will result in the temporary power loss of the window switch, making it want to relearn.

Hi,

I have a 2015 GMC Sierra Denali and got it Thursday of last week. This morning I started to have the same problems with the exception of absolutely no power anywhere. Dealer towed it to their mechanic and fixed it for the day. Until about 6 o clock and the truck quit in traffic unexpectedly. I got out and jiggled the negative post and everything came back on. On the way home from work tonight that message came up. I am relaying this thred to the mechanic in hopes of him fixing this issue tomorrow morning. The truck died as I pulled into the mechanics parking lot just 30 minutes ago. Will keep you posted on his results!

Check your harness connector in the door jamb. Did you notice this happen during a rain event? If water is intruding at the boot, it is likely getting a short as the main power and ground branch is at the bottom of the connector.

Also, this main power wire hits the driver window motor. So if you can check there for signs of corrosion, that might be it.

I’ll be also seen the large power/ground wires slightly severed where they could potentially ground out.

Phil, could you PM me about a problem with my 19 3500 no start issue?

Thanks

Now mine did same thing for a few days and then eventually stopped working! Changed window motor, wire loom in door jam is a bit corroded, noticed passenger puddle light wasn't as bright as driver's, now driver's puddle light works- passengers dont. As soon as I open door all is good till half open than message came on! Now it just says open an close driver's window, door ajar, stabilitrak, trailer brake, power steering, and the list goes on. And yes it was raining and I left door open to pull someone out and I've checked all fuses and battery dont seem to be up there in charge some times....I've got a spare ECM and bcm programmed to my vin and was going to switch them to see if it would cure my issues but haven't yet. I don't get on here very much if youd like to email me at [email protected]

Steve, did cleaning this up fix it for you? We have the same thing going on right now. Sorry to hear about your saga.

Yes it did.  Showed my pics to the service writer at my dealership and they cleaned it up.  Would have done it myself but they also needed to replace the window tint so I had them take care of it.  Been several months now since I've had this error come up... knock on wood...

That’s good to know. I just pulled my plug and it’s not crowded at all so I put some dielectric grease in there. Perhaps it got water in there and hasn’t done it enough to build up corrosion yet. I might just silicone around the rubber seal because it’s not really that good of a seal

Not sure if you fixed the problem, but im Having the same issue. I noticed one day while my driver door was open, the window wouldn’t go up or down. I wiggled the wires in the door jamb and it worked again. Must be a broken wire in the door jamb. If you’ve fixed your problem let me know what the issue was!

My issue hasn't returned and it does appear that it's been fixed... knock on wood...

I recently hooked up a dash cam setup. I disconnected the negative on the battery and it sat like this overnight. When I hooked it back up and started the truck I got the window message

Down and up with the window and message went away.

The last time I disconnected the negative on the battery I got the same message.

So it has to be something with losing power.

Ok, So part of this is exactly the problem. It's just very general which doesn't help you and that's no fault to @rusty503. He is exactly right.

I have run into this many of times on these vehicles since i am the electrical specialist at our dealership . Unfortunately I can't see the vehicle to test it so I am not going to say it is not a body control module failure. Because it absolutely could be. Do I think it is? No. But again I can't test it personally so I will not say they are definitely wrong. I will explain to you though why I believe it is wrong and what I think you should look for in case the BCM does not fix it. And please, If the BCM fixes it let us know. I really enjoy these types of problems and am interested.

The BCM uses voltage to keep it's memory (this is why it could be a bad BCM) When it falls below a certain voltage the Capacitors in the BCM discharge and this sends it into a relearn mode (telling you to roll the windows up and down, ect..) This is why I don't think the BCM is the problem.

I believe you have a voltage drop problem on one of your battery cables. This is actually an easy test and don't take long. Do a loaded voltage drop test across your battery cables. You need less than 0.1 volt across all of them even though 0.2 volts is acceptable.

If your voltage drop is higher on any of those cables or across the battery block (which is where I normally find the problem. Either a lug that's barely loose or a crack in the plate) replace it. The reason it's coming up with this is because during cranking the voltage drop is higher than normal. If you have (let's say) 2 volts of drop during cranking that means on a perfect battery your BCM would be seeing 10.8 volts and discharge the capacitors causing your vehicle to go into relearn mode.

Here is the catch. Your vehicle isn't doing it every day (which makes me think it is the battery block again..loose lug or crack) so you will not see the full drop. But anything higher than 0.20 needs to be replaced. This will fix your problem IF the BCM doens't fix it. Because again... I can't test the BCM myself. I just have my doubts about it... But it is possible.

If you need me to explain anything else, how to do the test or ect... Just quote me and ask so I get the message on my phone. If not i check here every few days. The Ad's are killing me and I don't really like to come here much anymore.

Hey my 2017 just started doing the window up down message and telling me to do it every time I start my truck. Also how do I test the bcm?

Phil, I have been having this issue for a few months. Recently, the driver door open notification has added to the list. I replaced my driver window switch as that was a suggested resolve and "that switch tells the vehicle the door is open or closed." Im going to check the harness in the door this week. My harness is a replacement that was repined to make the upgraded OEM mirrors fold on my truck. If I happen to find the corrosion as described, what is the best suggestion for cleaning it up?

I am having this problem now.  Been to the dealership twice; Goodyear 5 times.  I reset the window by letting it roll down hold the button for 10 seconds; roll up hold for 10 seconds.  It went away for 3 weeks but now it is back.
