Use this video to see a close up and description of exactly what wires to use for power and ground.

The plug that the guy taps into on his Denali is the exact same plug that was glued inside the headliner of my LT Trail Boss (remove the roof console and it’s right there - circled in the photo below). I followed his instructions and used the purple/white wire for power and the black/white wire for ground.

Awesome info!!!    Did you splice into the wires or did you just cut the two needed wires from the plug and use them?

I'm assuming since the plug is "dead" you really don't need it?    Or are the wires completing some type of circuit?

I'm only mounting a map light, but I do plan on using an in-line fuse.

The unused plug had ignition power already running to it even though it wasn’t in play. I used this little wiring harness from Invisicord that just uses pins to slide into the plugs. Pay attention to the type of USB plug you need for your device (I chose mini USB) and the harness pin size (I chose micro pins). The little black box converts the 12v power down to 5v for the dash cam.

I finally got around to taking out the the console and found the harness.  What would your guess on the Guage of wire it is?  22?  24?

I'm thinking of using a T- tap connector ....think this will work?

I'm only wiring up a dome/map light and the wiring on that is definitely 20 ga or smaller.

I'm surprised gen5diy wasn't helpful.  Did you contact them directly or just search their site?

And their site has come a long way since I was there last.  He started with making stuff for the 5th Gen Camaro (hence the website name).  He used to hang out at Camaro5 and was always helpful with providing wiring harness info and GM part numbers.

But if you have a dash cam with parking mode this won’t work. Fuse tap is the best route for that. You need a source with power when ignition is off. Like the garage remote for example. I use a power magic pro so when I’m parked in my garage it’s off. When I head out somewhere, I can flip it on and it stays on when I park somewhere and hopefully catch an incident should one happen.

I'm using it for a dome/map light overhead in my cab.  I only need it powered when the accessories are on.

I’m not sure what gauge the wires are, but the T-tap connector should work if you undo some of the tape to loosen the wires.

I would like to thank everyone in this thread! I was able to install a dash cam in my 2021 LT Trail Boss seamlessly. I'm usually intimidated by things like that, but all the info here really help.

For anyone with a 21 the wire harness was tucked up in the headliner as described here. The wires matched the video shown here by location and color as well.

2020 Silverado TrailBoss LT

Thanks for all the info! I was able to install this pretty quickly and easily. I didn't take pictures of the wiring because there are plenty here already.

I used HitCar's DC 12V to 5V Power Inverter Micro USB Right Angle (EA-HW02_MOR) for the wiring. It took 3 weeks to be delivered. I trimmed off all but ~6" of the hardwire end.

Once I located the unused connector, I cut back the tape to expose more of the wires. Then, I cut and stripped 1/4" of the the black with white stripe and purple with white stripe wires. Using 18-22 gauge boot connectors, I spliced red to purple and black to black.

The only modification I made to the truck was to the mirror shroud. I used wire cutters to trim away a piece of the vent to allow the wire to float. It had sharp edges after trimming it, so I used a file to knock them down.
