I'm looking to clean up the undercarriage before winter, any recommendations on paint? I plan on coating with fluid film afterwards also if anyone has feedback using the product. I've heard good things about it, any cons....?

Daubert NoX wax coating is the factory stuff you can buy. I wouldn't do fluid film as it can actually be counterproductive if it negatively reacts with the wax coating.

Cosmoline makes a long list of products. I’d recommend their undercoating spray for the frame. My brother in law uses it, but he doesn’t keep his stuff long enough to see long term results.

Fluid film can then be used everywhere else, like inside doors and what not.

Summit Racing has a product I used on my car that’s only $25 for I believe gallon can. However it dries fast (10 minutes) and supposedly lasts 7 years on 3 coats. Will probably use it on my truck this year weather permitting. I believe it needs to be 60 degrees out and use a throwaway gun. I think I used some xylene? To clean my gun as normal mineral spirits didn’t work.

I did fluid film on my truck in ‘17 but it hasn’t seen winter much. I know it needs coated again since the factory coating has been slowly disappearing.

I’d like to do the cosmoline on my frame,use what I have left of my summit inhibitor and then lastly coat everything w wax. Then let time be the judge.

Respect to the guys who spend hours scouring and prepping their truck frame, but it's not for me.    I just spot-spray it with whatever sticky oil-based product I have lying around, or can mix up.   It's quick and effective, and doesn't seem to hurt the factory wax (which is of dubious value anyway).

I got mine re-coated by the dealer under warranty at 36 months old and that's the last time I'm going to worry about it.

 

Nothing is going to be perfect under a truck. Rust is going to happen. I would suggest just touching it up using the NoX factory coating. It is supposed to "self heal" after small scratches. Paint won't do that.

 

The frame will last as long as the rest of the electronics on my truck and after another 10 years, I'll be in a new truck anyway.

 

As far as fluid film, it's awesome stuff for coating bare metal. I used it on my plow. But it's not good on rubber, and possibly some other surfaces, so be careful where you spray it.

You're the second one recommending NoX, seems like a good way to go to me seeing that the wax spray is already in black. Sounds like a two for one deal to me.
