I have a 1998 C1500 Silverado with a 350 and has 104,000 miles "Original Owner" The truck starts instantly, idles very smooth and quite, takes off with lots of power and torque, can drive in the city or on the freeway no issues at all, I can run it on the freeway 75-80 with zero issues, I can pull a long gradual grade at 70-80 MPH no issues. However the truck will start missing and shaking only if I am pulling a steeper hill and only driving around 50 MPH, once I reach the top of the hill and back off the throttle within 10~15 seconds it goes back to smooth and powerful, most of the time it does NOT throw a code unless I really force it up the hill and not backing off the throttle and will then throw the P0300 "random misfire" and nothing else.

What I have done so far:

Rotor, Cap, Wires, Plugs, Fuel Filter, Cleaned throttle body, Replaced TPS, Replaced the EGR valve, replaced the fuel Pump 2 years ago, It just passed the Calif. emissions test with no issues, Tested the fuel pressure, with key on 63 PSI, engine Idling 58 PSI, when snapping the throttle open jumps back to 63 PSI, I did monitor the fuel pressure during the smog test and under a 50% load pressure averaged 60~62 PSI. I did a fuel pressure leak down test and it held at 62 for over 10 Min. I did a vacuum test at an Idle it pulls around 18~20 steady, Cleaned the MAF sensor. I am a bit stumped at this point mainly because the truck runs flawless other than pulling a hill at 50 MPH, I have read many articles about this issue with no real definitive answers and was hoping this group could lead me to the answer. I feel like I am missing something simple..

Thanks!

I wonder if this is a heat related issue. Do you notice this happening more in the summer or on hot days?

At 50 MPH your tranny and torque converter is going to be at it's weakest point for 4th gear.  I've experienced shudder and such when towing on older trucks at that range and the truck shifts into 4th.  bumping it down to 3rd until i can get the speed up helped in that situation.

I don't recall it doing it any less in the cooler weather.

What I have tried while running up the hill was to lightly press the brake pedal just enough to activate the brake lights thus disengaging the torque converter lock and it still did it as well, I don't remember if I manually kicked it out of overdrive and into 3rd before going the hill, I will try that in the morning.

Are your thoughts while the Trans is shuttering / pulsing creating erratic load the ECM module is trying compensate thus throwing it off, what I did forget to mention is once the shaking / missing starts if I put the Trans. into neutral and rev up the engine the engine is missing really bad for about 10 Secs then smoothens out back to normal.

I tried running up the hill with the Trans in 3rd and it still starting missing about 2/3 of the way up the hill.

Cats beginning to clog?  Can you replicate on flat ground with a full throttle pull?  Or maybe several in a row?  Otherwise, I would agree, coils, wires and plugs would be my next step.

While getting on the freeway today from about 15 MPH  I hammered the throttle And didn't let up until about 85 MPH, and it did seem to start to have a slight miss but no were as bad as it does going up a hill, of course a hill is producing a higher load, but I didn't get a check engine light....

Thanks!

I am having a similar problem with my 2004 Chevy Tahoe. No miss at all driving except when I am at highway cruising speeds going up hill. About half way up the hill the check engine light will start to flash but if I let off the gas for a second and then get back into it it goes back to normal. Any ideas? Let me know if I can provide anymore info. Thanks!

    • WTI futures / speculation is just that. WTI futures <> current 4-7% inflation and national average gas price over $4.00/gallon.   The spot price, at delivery, is currently $87-$95/barrel which is why gas prices remain high.   Edit: oH mY gOd mEnTaL BrEaKdoWn In tHE pOsT aBOve mInE. • He does, actually. In another unrelated video he mentions the president called him in the middle of the night to relay some information on a cause (religious based) that he's invested in. Glenn expressed concern that another leftist administration could wield too much power with some procedure the Pentagon was using, classifying certain religions a certain way. Being that he is LDS (Latter Day Saints), he gets hate all the time from ALL over the political spectrum, so he's invested in this. Trump called him back at 5AM to tell him he had made some changes to that classification.   So, yes, they are and have been in contact regularly since the start of the administration. Glenn, of course, always asks his permission before discussing anything on the air.   I already spent an hour or more just searching for these videos. I may have my numbers wrong - I'm not a numbers guy. It may have been a MILLION barrels, not 1.5. The point is, our President, by his actions, gives a crap about America, and US - this is completely OPPOSITE the actions of the prior administration who projected hatred for anyone who wasn't following the left's edicts in lock-step.   Remember, they called January 6th an "Insurrection", when there were ZERO weapons among the crowd, undercover FBI agents agitating the crowd, along with paid leftists acting as aggressors, egging the crowd on in an attempt to whip everyone into a frenzy. It's all been proven.  Pelosi refused Trumps request for more National Guard troops. This smells 100% like an inside job for those with critical thinking skills. Only a handful of guys in the crowd got wrapped up in that, thankfully, but EVERYONE was searched out based on cell phone data, and charges were brought against many. And 6 or so people were locked up and left in solitary confinement for YEARS with ZERO due process!! If you give the slightest crap about our Nation, REGARDLESS of your political leanings, this should frighten you to your core. This is what men suffered, bled, fought, and died against 250 years ago!   This has gone FAR BEYOND left vs. right. This is a  threat to America, and our way of life. This is PRECISELY why Trump, a BILLIONAIRE who could have chosen to take Melania and sit on some tropical island that he could afford to buy himself and RELAX, instead chose to run for office, get hate from literally every corner of the media, get ATTEMPTS on his LIFE constantly, and begin to repair some of the severe damage that's been done to this Great Nation.   I don't know why I bother wasting my precious time here. Everyone has their minds made up. They won't realize we all were correct until it's too late ... after they elect another tyrant that hates America to office (Obama), or another puppet whose administration is secretly running the show behind the scenes (Biden).
    • Hello, Im in a bit of a bind maybe someone could help me out.  We towed our trailer, up a pretty steep incline (395 north of Bishop) done it before no issues. I got to our campground turn truck off, i restarted the truck about an hour later  and check engine light turns on. Found DTC P2C48,  unable to reset.  This morning i removed the plug, there's 12.12v at the plug. Reservoir near firewall is full of coolant, checked for leaks nothing. I dont hear or feel the pump turning on. My dilemma, is nearest dealer  is 4hrs away that has the pump instock. Is it safe to drive? By me checking the available voltage at the connector and not hearing/feeling pump turn on, is it a bad pump? Please help...
    • The figure bandied about is "100 million barrels" so I think a decimal is off somewhere. But that doesn't change the outcome much when the expected flow through the Strait through over the same time should have been more than 2,000,000,000.   So 5%, if that number is even true, and there's sufficient data to believe it's not. Give that man another Fifa peace prize! 5% is less than the flow of a grapefruit-sized prostate blocking the release of cheap lager after a night of bingo.
