I just bought a 2008 gmc sierra 1500, I found the remote start doesn't work. I have a code reader plugged it in said no codes stored. took it to the mechanic in town, he's not GM certified but has a snap on reader, he hooked his reader up said no stored codes. the pick up will act like it starts I think its the fuel pump you can hear then the lights flicker but never tries to start. the check engine light is never on when I drive it  but after it doesn't start I can see a check engine light through the window on the dash but 2 code readers said no stored or active codes. It has 3/4 tank of fuel. And I made sure the hood was closed. any information would be helpful

thanks!

maybe leave the window open and code reader attached, try the remote start, then read codes right away?

maybe also subscribe to the full-service manual at a site like alldatadiy.com (or other sites) and see what GM says about figuring out that problem?

Remote start will not work if there are active codes and a basic code reader cannot see all codes.  The bi-directional scan tool, like that Snap-On machine ought to be able to see the commanded and actual fuel pressure and the Long Term Fuel Pump Trim.  If you plan on keeping this truck you really need the aforementioned subscription to AllDataDIY for the shop manual and your own Tech-2.  It's the most important tool in your toolbox for working on one of these and it will quickly pay for itself.  They are not very expensive right now either.

Does your truck have RPO code (glove box for the sheet) AP3 or AP8?

Might be a silly question but did you check that the remote is sending a signal and the remote start module is receiving it correctly?
