Arghh, I edited my post and removed the important part.......

Dealerships in my area have been using the PF63. My truck has had PF63 installed for any oil change done at a dealership. I'm trying to figure out if I'm missing something. Either that or these dealerships are retarded, Or knowingly using these filters.

The PF63E has a 22 psi bypass. The PF63 does not, it has a 12 psi bypass. Anything less then 15 psi and your bearings are getting ****ed (according to gm).

Has no one used the stock acdelco oil filter!? Is there an updated PF63 and the old version was 12psi?? I have yet to find a website that doesnt list PF63E as the oe filter, including the owners manual.

*edit*

Is this happening all over the continent or have you guys had PF63E's used for any dealership service? PF63 doesnt even show up on acdelco. **** I'm pissed. No wonder my lifters were ****ed at 40000 km.

Interesting thread, at least for me. I just had my oil changed at my Chevy dealership & they used the P/N 12690385, which is the PF63E. I check on line several places and PF63E is the one offered for GM ACDelco. Rockauto sells these for $3.33 each. That's pretty cheap IMO. The Wix WL10255 goes for $4.19, still pretty cheap. The NAPA 100255 shows up as PLATINUM & isn't carried by RA but I checked the NAPA online & it goes for $7.49, which is over 2x of the AC Delco.

RA also lists AC Delco UPF63R (#12693541) professional GOLD as a heavy duty filter for $6.60. I wonder if that makes it @x as good?

Many to choose from.

No where could I find a PF63 filter listed as a filter for my '17 LTZ 5.3L V8....Just adding for conversation.

Professional

(UPF63R)

An ACDelco Gold Ultraguard Oil Filter provides outstanding protection for demanding uses, such as racing, off-road, and heavy duty truck applications. With 98% multi-pass efficiency at 25-30 microns and burst-strength that is five times greater than normal engine oil operating pressures (as long as the normal engine oil operating pressure is not greater than 51psi), the ACDelco Gold Ultraguard Oil Filter is the clear choice when performance matters.

Features & Benefits:
  • Equipped with 98% multi-pass filtering efficiency at 25-30 microns for outstanding filtering capabilities
  • Designed to withstand five times greater force than most engine operating pressures, after oil reaches operating temperatures, for a longer life
  • Has a thermosetting adhesive seal to keep filtering media in place for dependable performance

just wondering out loud, but when i go WOT, and the engine spins up to 6000 rpm. the oil pump is is putting out some serious pressure, even regulated to 60-80 psi.   so what's happening when you do this, the bypass valve is always opening up when you exceed the pop off point on the oil filter?  or is the pressure much lower at the filter housing?

what happens when you use a cheap filter with a weak valve, or one with a higher pop open spring? how is this effecting longevity of bearings and other components like the VVT or DOD system?

Just for added info on Napa filters, they make 3 different filters for these trucks.

2100255 is the Pro-select aka Silver filter. $5.00

100255 is the Gold filter. $7.29

4100255 is the Platinum filter. $7.49

The difference between them all is the filter media material and micron ratings.

One of us is confused. The relief valve setting isn't the oil pressure but rather the pressure difference or drop across that filter. Does that explanation help?

Try this site to explain what the "bypass relief valve" does.

What is the Function of the Bypass Valve in an Oil Filter?

ahh ok, even at 60 psi input it's not gonna open  releaf pressure because both sides are at the same or close to the same pressure. Its there for a plugged up filter that no one has changed .

I just had my final free oil change at the dealership for my 2018 Sierra 5.3....every filter up to now was PF63E, but I see this last one they've used a PF63F.

This is really old news.

Looking at my service records I have a combination of PF63, PF48 and PF63E filters being used. Only the last service visit was PF63E and that's because it was at a different dealership having the lifters replaced. My dealership wouldn't do it (probably a good thing).

Until the oil is up to operating temp. Cold starts, towing after a cold start etc.

There's a dealership that needs to be avoided like the plague. I wouldn't let them replace the light in a closet.
