I have 15,000 miles of driving on 6.2: 10 speeds in AT4 - 2019 (10k), 2020 (5k) of which 12k miles is towing 8k-9k lbs.  Went from 2019 to 2020 to get tow mirrors.  Both trucks shifted like butter and worked perfect.  10 speed really shines for towing over 6 speed.   I would not buy 8 speed when you can get the 10 speed that offers more range and overall is a smoother shifting tranny!

I went from a 2016 5.3 with a 6 speed to a 2020 5.3 with the 10 speed. WHAT a difference. This truck drives so much better. Smooth shifting and holds gears great going down hills.  I would not hesitate to get a 10 speed.

Same here. Smooth as silk. I never know when it's shifting. You can feel the shift in Sport Mode but that's how it should be.

I absolutely love my 2020 LTZ Crew Cab 6.2l and 10 speed auto. It shifts so smooth you can barely feel it. And I can get 24 mpg on the highway at 65 mph. And it’s an absolute blast to drive.

I'm going to 2nd this. 2020 Trail Boss LT w/ 6.2. Best highway mpg I've seen is 23.9. That number gets significantly lower if you can't keep off the throttle because of the smiles it brings. I am running the stock Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs on stock 18" wheels. My best mpg happened while driving cross country from Virginia to California. Bed was full, 2 passengers, and loaded back seat. As for comparison to the 3.0 Duramax, the diesel is getting even better mpg. You can get a Sierra AT4 with the 3.0 Duramax and 10-speed. It has the same torque rating as the 6.2. The 10 speed is so smooth that you never know what gear you're in unless you're shifting manually.

Hey guys......

I'm eyeballing a 2021 LT trail boss 5.3 10speed trans. I know it's a crap shoot from lemon or best truck ever as far as problems go, but does anyone have any experience w these 10 speeds? I currently own a '15 1500 w a flawless 6 speed......but damn those trail bosses are sweet looking.

Lots of info on the 8 speed problems, not too much info on the 10s yet. Any info you guys can give me would be much appreciated.

Love this combo. Lot's of power from this engine.  Smooth as silk transmission. I have had mine almost 1 year.

Update.......

2 days ago, a snow plow spins out in front of me......boom. Airbags didnt deploy, but about 90% of my front end is getting replaced. Things happen, I understand,  but thank God I didnt buy the new truck yet. I would have cried like a 5yr old girl.

Have a 2020 Trailboss 5.3 10 speed. Picked it up late October. No regrets at all. Has been a great truck so far. Only had 2 issues. Minor leak on back window which I fixed myself for $15 (see the window leak thread) and some Steering Column Lock message that showed up for about a week but disappeared on its own the day before the service appointment. Will be heading up to the mountains to play in the snow. Excited to see how it does. Also plan on getting a smaller travel trailer by summer time. Max of 6,500lbs fully loaded so shouldn’t have any issues with that. I suggest checking out TFL Trucks on YouTube. They bought a red Trailboss with the 5.3 10 speed and ran it through a gauntlet of tests off-road/towing etc. It performed well in everything they threw at it.

My 2020 TB 5.3 10-spd is an amazing truck. That transmission is just so smooth and buttery shifting, you barely know its there. My truck shifts better than my 2020 Lexus RX350 F-Sport with an 8-spd transmission. Here in NC, going west towards the mountains, there are a few places you have to "climb the mountain" (Hwy 421 past Wilkesboro heading towards Boone and I40 just past Old Fort) and my truck just handles it with ease, shifting into which ever gear it needs and you barely notice it except for the increased revving. Some people have complained of a clunk going into gear, but I've never noticed it. And don't get me started on how much better the engine and transmission are compared to my old Tacoma with it's V6 and 6-spd.

Hey that's my neck of the woods.  ?

Hey that's my neck of the woods.  [emoji16]
I've driven I40 from I85 to the state line. I concur the 10-speed handled it well. I have a 6.2 though, lol.

I usually take a right on 221 before you get to Boone though. That's my weekend neck of the woods. Although not this weekend since I'm recovering from "retiring the swim team" if you catch my drift.
