I’m looking for some guidance for the 10spd transmission flush. 
 

I did a quick search and didn’t find much. Seems like most people are taking the truck to the dealership for this - which is not an option for me. 
 

I already bought the bolt kit for the one time use stretch bolts that hold the transmission filter. I have 20qrs of ACDelco transmission fluid and a new transmission filter. 
 

It would greatly appreciated If anybody has done this and can shed some light on the process. Or if there’s a well written write up on the procedure that I over looked. 
 

I checked Amsoil website for the capacity and it reads “10 speed With Cooler 10L80 Total Fill 12 quarts 
10 speed Trans Only 10L80 Total Fill 12.6 quarts 
8.1 quarts Initial Fill”

 

my plan was to drain the fluid from the trans and then replace filter and bolts and refill with the same Amount of fluid that was drained.

Unfortunately, the fill port is up on the side right next to the body and very hard to get to.  There is a level check port on the side to make sure it is at the correct level but to add fluid it seems you have to do that through the cooler lines.

 

I've been waiting to see if anyone has come up with a way to do a change on these, a DYI but so far no luck because of the difficulty adding fluid back in unless you have something to hook up to the cooler lines.

I have been inquiring about R & R the ATF (with AMSOIL) in my 2021 Denali.  Local trans shop want's nothing to do with the job and said it pita.  They also mentioned you have to plug some oem style tech hardware to monitor the fluid temp because that is what determines if the fluid is filled to the required capacity. Too cold, you end up adding to much ATF and it will be overfull at operating temp.  Local GM dealer will not do it with customer supplied fluid, shop policy they don't install customer supplier parts etc.

The dealer here, Jeff Gordan Chevrolet said they would do it and would run me $125 if I supplied the fluid.  So that is what I'm going to do here soon.  I'll take them two 2.5 gallons of AMSOIL ATL.

On my 2017 the Chevy dealer in another town (now out of business*) used 18 qts to flush my 2017 8sp.  Gave them 2 cases of qts, there were 6 left. 

 

*All the GM dealer within 100 miles of me been gobbled up by mega dealer who ran them out of business with large inventory and lower prices. Where we once has 4 independently owned GM dealers, now 1 big corp owner. The mega has 9 dealerships in Minn, Wis and Michigan, 6 are GM.

I also looked into performing this myself with no success and it looked like a major PITA on the driveway.  My dealer changed the filter and filled fluid at 56k miles for about 400$.  This involved dropping the y pipe and took them a long time to do so.  Tech said it was somewhat difficult to get transmission temp up for proper level check maybe a symptom of having more cooling capacity on the NHT.  Why cant we have a dipstick and drain plug?!  While at the dealer I walked around all 6 new trucks they had for sale and felt better about my decision given what they want for a new one currently.

This is how they make money.  Making you come in for service that you can't do yourself.

Not surprising when you co-develop it with a completely different manufacture "Ford" and then try and stick it in multiple models both car and truck. I guess it is good that it seems to be a good performing trans, but it looks like the ability to repair or service has been compromised with it.

I guess I really cant complain.  No maintenance other than oil/filter changes and I did the rear end and xfer case at the house.  Automakers are quietly pushing society to electric vehicles.

They're also tired of fighting about warranty coverage for damage caused by stuff that owners did wrong. 

 

I'm not saying there aren't fully capable owners out there, but there are also lots of owners that should never be allowed to attempt any sort of maintenance.
