After seeing that the 2022 Ford F-150 isn't going to be that different than 2021, I am looking at the GMC Sierra and the website says I could reserve the 2022... but wouldn't that be at MSRP? I don't want to commit $100 to it and then be stuck at that deal.

I've been spoiled by the $10k off my RST when I bought it in 2019 and it held its value very well, so well that I can actually afford the $60k Denali. I know I won't get $10k off but I am hoping I could get around $4k off through GMC promotions (not from the dealership). That being said, should I call the dealership beforehand and negotiate how much off MSRP (separate from GMC promotions) before committing myself to purchase the 2022 Sierra?

With all the pent up demand, I think we will be paying MSRP for quite a while. There may even be dealer markups coming soon. I've actually seen markups for 2021s on the west coast. That being said, yes, talk with your dealer.

Yeah I don't think you will be able to talk anyone down but it absolutely does not hurt to call and ask!

They did that reservation game back when they introduced the new Camaro and as I recall people were driving them whilst those who reserved them were waiting months longer.   Note the disclaimer.

That's the answer I needed... I won't be doing it that way then. Besides, it's almost moot if I custom order it anyways.

That pretty much does it for me ... I won't be doing it that way then. Besides, it's almost moot if I custom order it anyways.

I am hoping my dealership will let me put the entire $50,000 on the credit card so I can get enough miles for a roundtrip to Europe. If I'm going to be paying MSRP, I want that option then.

I'll be doing that, thanks!

Paying to get on a 'prospect customer' list....

Anybody got inside info on which cab/box/trim combos will be available first?

For $100? No, I'll just hit Autotrader and look up new trucks. if I can find 2021 Silverados at $3k off the MSRP, I'm sure same can be done for 2022 when it comes out. Maybe not $3k... but I don't want to be committed to just one dealership.
