I wish the gas engine trucks had a smooth top hood without the scoop and had all the raised bulk removed.

In my opinion the existing air intake routing looks to be better then trying to rig the center hood scoop anyway.

So do I. Obvious cost saving to GM not to have to make a different set-up. The fake scoop is dumb but the big plastic vent, Star Wars ship design blocks, whatever the hell they are supposed to be things up by the cowl are ridiculous to look at and even distracting from the driver perspective.

The only reason I won't bother to change them, dress them, or anything else is I'm at peace with the fact that my truck is the ugliest vehicle on the road and there's no point trying to polish a turd. It drives great, and I love the features/interior/capability...etc but its ugly and, well, that's that. Just wish I didn't have to be reminded of it when I'm inside of it by that stupid black block of plastic in my face in front of the wheel.

I installed the Duramax chrome hood with the open vent.  I opened up a slot in the insulation pad and installed a deflector to direct the air flow into the engine compartment.  Some of the fresh air will find itself to the cold air intake area but most airflow will land right on the top of the intake.  Mostly the chrome hood vent looks cool, but I'd like to think that cool air on a gas motor is a good thing.

Any concerns to mag/chloride causing under hood issues this winter? Or would you just close it off for winter use?

I like your concept to cooling the intake manifold.  That could also have a positive effect on fuel mileage.

that would be terrible, then you could see in front on the truck, and who needs that. hahahaha

Yeah I did think about anything getting inside the engine compartment, anything corrosive would be met with totally blocking it off but so far the snow removal chemicals are not making it in.  If I did interstate travel in bad weather I think it would be possible.  As far the fuel mileage, its still bad lol.  I'm a 35 year tech so to me heat is a killer so I'm hoping it keep things cooler.  I may need the next 10 - 15 years to prove it though.
